6906 trigger action

My wife has owned an S&W 9mm 6906 for several years. That's basically all she had shot until just before we got married. On Valentine's day, I gave her a really nice 1911. She got kinda spoiled with the 1911.

We went out to the range yesterday to get in a bit of target practice, and she discovered that there was a lot of travel in that S&W trigger before it got to where the break is. Is there anywhere that I can obtain information on how to take up the slack in that trigger?

This gun was designed as a first shot double action and follow up shots in single action until the hammer is decocked.

If you are referring to the slack taken up in the single action mode....if it's excessively sloppy....look for posts on trigger play spring.

Another area could be trigger time. DA/SA trigger systems are not easy to master.

On multiple shot strings.....if you only release the trigger to the point of reset.....you will never feel or deal with any slack.

Some people would like to turn Fords into Cadillacs, but it's generally not worth the time and expense. Either will get you where you need to go.

You can't make a 1911 out of a 6906 (or vice versa). If your wife no longer likes the 6906, then I'm sure there are others who would appreciate it. Either she makes the commitment to mastering both - or gives one up. The 6906 isn't broken - so it doesn't need fixing. Simple as that.

You do realize you are comparing a double action trigger (6906) to a single action trigger (1911).

I picked up a used LEO 6906 a few months ago. Most of the center-fire pistols I've owned have not been DA/SA. The 6906 trigger seemed "odd" at first, but I like that pistol. Still like my Glocks and 1911's, but the 6906 has found a warm corner in my shooting heart.
