6906 value

good morning,

A friend told me he has a 6906 possibly for sale, I don't know any thing about it other then it is former cops gun. what would one of these go for.

Condition and inclusion of correct box, documents, cleaning tool, and number of magazines would determine price.

For what it's worth: Seven (7) months ago I purchased (privately) a 6906 in excellent condition. Earlier one with hooked trigger guard & small bump rear sight. No box, no papers and two (2) OEM S&W 12rd magazines. $425. From what I've understood prices a few years back during the Police Turn In days they were a lot lower. I'm sure the hive here will soon chime in on their thoughts. The 6906 is a very well liked compact pistol.

Certainly a very nice pistol for carrying and shooting, even in today’s world. A great ballpark source for what these pistols (as well as literally all S&Ws) are selling for is Gunbroker, GunsInternational and other online sites.

I really like mine. Got it about 10 years ago for about $300. GB Sales show most going in the $450-500 range with outliers down to $300 and up to the moon! Local sales will generally be lower, so I'd say a bare gun with 2 mags would be a fair deal at $400 to maybe $450. But everything varies across the country.

Great pistol! I carried one as my first duty gun. I found it to be easy to carry and conceal. I fianlly got one to replace that duty gun that I was to stupid not to buy when we went to Glocks.

In Montana a 6906 with 2 original S&W magazines seems to sell around 500.00

Best guess $400-500 in decent shape with 1 or 2 mags - depending on condition and accessories maybe $550. Add tax and shipping if buying online. There have been several listed on GB for months in the $6xx range with no sales. Generally hooked trigger guard and early fixed sights are less desirable than curved trigger guard and Novak sights. Exception is AIP or DVL s/n prefix (Hooked trigger guard and early sights) from earliest 1988 production with original box might bring more, but those are rare. Night sights exist but are rare and probably dead by now unless relamped.

I walked into the local gun and jewelry pawn shop at the exact right second and got a third gen for $350.
Is that what you want to know?
I bought a S&W 457 in 2005 for $500 full retail.
That gun is worth 5 times that to me because I depend on it, and I believe in it.
There is a philosophy behind all this.
People who carry a Glock use different ideas.

This 3rd Gen has a decocker that can also serve as a safety when needed.
The slide mounted safety can be pushed off while the pistol is fully seated in my holster on my side, which I cannot do as easily with a frame mounted safety.
The double action first pull is heavier and is just like a revolver.
The follow ups are the sweetest single action I have. (Yours might need worked.)
My 6906 runs 147 grain Federal HST's perfectly!
12+1 of 9mm!
The magazine disconnect is a feature I use every day.
3.5 inch barrel works for appendix carry or IWB.
Buy the gun.

Completed includes both Sold and completed not-sold (0 bids) - just make sure you are looking at sold prices

I have two 6906s, $275 for the first one about 4 years ago; the second was around $400 last year IIRC. If the gun is in good condition with not too much holster wear or damage from putting it in and out of gun lockers (cops are required to put up their firearms in all sorts of small lockers when entering a jail facility and in some places, courtrooms) the $400-500 is a pretty good deal. Definitely not over $600 IMO, though.

I bought a police trade in 6906 in 2008. I paid $375.00 plus tax for the gun, three magazines, box, paperwork, and a couple of holsters. Still seems reasonable.

Great Gun, I've got several including a Performance Center Shorty-9. One, or a 3913, has been my primary concealed Carry since 1989...... 37 years!

About the same size as a Glock 19

The last two I saw in my area were both in high condition. One came with two magazines and sold for $500 and the other was at a Cabela's store priced at $650. I don't recall if it had any extras, but it did have an upgraded front sight, XS big dot and is no longer in inventory.

I have two 6906’s and I don’t think I paid over $400 USD. But remember 3rd Generation S&W’s are going up in price especially if it comes with extras such as extra magazines
