6946 Ejector Spring

I have two 6946 police trade ins...love the pistols, they shoot great, and will eat everything. I have noticed though that they are both missing, what I believe to be ejector springs for the (disconnector assembly?). I could be wrong on the parts description, but I'm pretty sure that a spring is supposed to be in that hole.

Since they are both missing the springs, I'm thinking that this was done purposely. What would be accomplished by this? Would this render the pistol to not fire with the magazine removed? That is the only reason I can think that a police department would remove the spring.

I've attached a picture showing where I'm talking about. Any help is appreciated!

Thats not the ejector nearest your arrow, it's the firing pin safety lever. There should be springs under both the levers.

According to the "DAO Spring Rule":
If there is room for two levers on the right side, a spring must be installed.
If there is room for only one lever on the right hand side (like yours), no spring is installed.

Your 6946 pistols are assembled correctly as regards the right side lever springs.
Put a spring in that right side and you won't be able to remove the slide.

My 4053 must be assembled incorrectly. It has the firing pin safety lever, the sear release lever on that side (wide slot) and a spring. Weird.

No, armorer.
Your 4053 is correct.
If it has two levers on the right, a spring must be installed.
If it has only room for one lever on the right (early DAO models) then it must not use a spring.

Note: On DAO models the lever that replaces the sear release lever is known as the "firing pin retainer spacer".

Ok, thanks. News to me. Unfortunately, my manual only mentions the narrower slot and doesn't say anything about the omission of the spring.

Yeah, that rule is hard to remember.

Left side, narrow slot, one lever (Ejector & magazine depressor) always gets a spring. All models (TDA and DAO).

Right side, narrow slot, one lever (Firing pin safety lever) never gets a spring. Early DAO models.

Right side, wide slot, two levers (Sear release lever and Firing pin safety lever on TDA models; Firing pin retainer lever and Firing pin safety lever on later DAO models) always gets a spring. All models (TDA and DAO).

Or to put it more simply:

Right side slot:

Wide: spring

Narrow: No spring
