Well done OP. A great revolver.
I love the .44 Special cartridge and own quite few guns in this caliber. My 696 No Dash is one of my favorites.
I prefer a square butt. I happened to run across a set of Uncle Mike's rd to sq Combat conversions and the rest is history.

Congratulations on this very nice revolver.The 696 is my favorite revolver. I use it as a target revolver.

This newer thump piece has an advantage on the little 696. I like the old fashion thump-piece more than the newer model but I replaced it with a milled down one. An improvement since otherwise I always left the range with a bleeding thumb.

I cut all of my thumb pieces down just like that so an HKS speedloader clears them easily. Makes reloads smoother. (it lets you be a little sloppy) I don't think I've ever got smacked by a stock one except for a .41 Mag. snubbie that was just beyond stupid.
