Hi guys,

My 41 is dated '68 -as far as I remember- and has a muzzle brake. I've been very long time without using it, and now I'd like to sell it.

The problem is that the buyer wants to use yellow SK 22 lr ammo with it and it does not cycle well. Most times, say all but very few, it does not extract and the empty cartridge returns to the chamber.

I wonder if something can be done to solve this problem. I've tried to change the recoil spring but it does not help at all. Bougth a weaker one and cut it to extremely short dimensions with no results at all.

Should any of you have a solution for this, your help / suggestion will be really welcome.

Thanks a lot for reading me.

I have to wonder why a buyer would insist on using SK ammo, a German produced ammunition, when every recommendation since I've ever read anything about M41's has been to use CCI Standards??? Stick with the long held recommendation: US ammo for US manufactured firearms - Euro' ammo for Euro firearms.

I'd either be suggesting to the buyer that this poor cycling of SK ammo is his problem to resolve if he wants your M41 and insists on using SK, or look for a more sensible buyer.

mine used to do that in cold weather. often a drop of auto trans fluid on the case of the top round would help getting it going. once warmed up it was fine. lately it seems to cycle just fine and no idea why it used to do that. have been using standard velocity Federal 550 pack ammo for what it's worth.

Perhaps it's not the extractor, since the empty shell is retained and returned to the chamber. You could check the ejector, if for whatever reason the empty shell rides past the ejector, that could cause a problem.

I would be worried about running a weaker recoil spring and then cutting it making it even weaker. I have no experience with SK ammo or even know about it but generally find European ammo to be hotter ? I'd be worried about damaging the gun. The OP doesn't mention if the slide is fully cycling and if the gun is properly lubricated or if the chamber is good and clean. If all this is in order then I would suspect the extractor also. But I'm not a gunsmith and don't pretend to be one…. I run CCI standard velocity in mine or any other brand of standard velocity and don't have any issues.

Just for you to know

I should never modify an original part, not even less any spring.

What I have done, with no result, is to order a new spring with a thinner wire. Original is 0.73 mm diameter and, since that is very difficult to find in Spain, I made a new one with 0.7 mm instead.

At first, I thought that could be good enough, since the case does not reach the point in which it touches the ejector, but I was wrong. No way.

I started with far long than the original and cutting loop by loop until I reached a ridiculous oal without success.

Now I think that the most clever solution is to skip yellow SK and try CCI instead.
