700 X score

Scored some free 700x from a guy that shoots bullseye with me it's about 5 lbs total and I got three or four pounds a few months ago from another guy I know. I hear it's pretty good in the 45 bullseye loads might give it a try.
He says he has another 10 lbs he might give me so if it shoots good I can get a few seasons of shooting out of it depending. I'm currently using N310 and I still have probably 12 pounds of BE left.
The N310 shoots extremely well In my guns and runs really clean compared to the BE.

I have had good luck with 700x. Only real downside is it doesn’t really like my Dillon powder measure.

I have several pounds of 700X on the shelf. Got it in a "deal" a couple of years ago. May use it in my PPC .38 Special and save my Bullseye for my S&W 52-1.

700X was at one time The Powder to load 45 acp Bullseye Target Loads . It works well in many handgun loads ... 38 special 148 gr WC target loads are good .
700X also has a long shelf life , stored properly , in a cool , dark place ...
it remains good for decades !

700X was the first powder advertised as "clean" before Clays came along.
It is a good pistol powder once you get it in the case but did not meter well for me in CH or Dillon. I ended up with a vibrator (cheap aquarium air pump) on the powder measure to shake a reasonably uniform load into the bar.

Get a Belding & Mull Visible measure . Everything works in them. I have at least half a dozen myself. Best measure setup ever.

B&M doesn't link up to a progressive and I am way past loading common pistol ammo on a single stage.

I have had good luck with 700x. Only real downside is it doesn’t really like my Dillon powder measure.

I hear it doesn't meter well but I haven't tried it yet. Wonder if different powder measures will affect metering I only have RCBS uniflow but thinking about one of the newer ones that you can install the powder dump tube so you don't have to remove the whole thing every time!!

IMR 700-X has the same flake size as the old Hercules Unique, don't know how it compares to the Alliant Uniques' flake size.

I really like 700X for my 150 gr cast slug 9mm subsonic loads. Nice and quiet.

Never have really weighed the charges. I just select the spoon for the weight of powder that I am using and fill cases. For what I am doing it works fine. Have three RCBS measures, two Lyman 55's and an RCBS electronic measure/scale that are collecting dust.


This works well enough for me.

I use a Little Dandy for 700X and it's fairly consistent. Not like a ball powder but safe. Maybe +/- .2 grains at worst. I like 5.8 grains with a 160 gr cast bullet in the .308. Runs around 1050 fps.

I once weighed out 100 charges of 800-X with a scoop into cases. Then I weighed each one. If you are careful and use a consistent technique you can do +-.2 of a grain with maybe 5% lower than that. The real outliers were all on the low side.

I'll have to try my Little Dandy. I don't think I ever used that for these powders. I don't have but half a can of 700-X left and maybe a can and a half of 800-X.

700X is one of my favorite pistol powders. I have no issue using it with my Uniflo powder measures. Admittedly I give the side of the measure a couple of taps before I start. 700X works for many pistol cartridges and load data is easy to find for it.

Same here. 700-X seems to measure consistently in the Lyman 55. I have two of those. 700-X is not all that different from Bullseye, have used lots of it in .38 Special and .45. I do not have any 700-X left.

I don’t remember the powder, think it was an Alcan from long ago, that was terrible in the 55. Most every other propellant has been OK in the 55.

I use it almost exclusively for 12 gauge shotshell. My adjustable charge bar has ironically not been adjusted in decades, throwing the same charge of 700-X and 1 1/8 oz. of shot.

The Lee scoops are worthwhile once you get a feel for using them. But the actual powder weight may be a few tenths off from what the table says. i.e. If the table says that a scoop holds 6.0 grains of a specific powder, it might actually be anywhere between 5.8 and 6.2. That doesn’t particularly bother me. I use them mainly when I am loading only a few rounds rather than setting up a powder measure.

As DWalt stated, "get a feel for using them". I do the same scoop of the spoon and tap on the container to ensure it is level each and every time. To be honest I can not see a difference in accuracy between the scoops and my RCBS powder measure/scale. Was taught to use the scoops in 1973 and have been using them since.
