I recently purchased what appears to be an unfired 745 in box with all inserts and such. This gun was purchased new by a now retired employee of S&W in late 80s or so and he says its never been shot, but you know how that goes, so I'll say it APPEARS unfired. This gun has BoMar target sight on rear instead of Novaks and I can't find any reference to such. Product code on box (103721) indicates FS but special ord 7356 could mean something else. Any info on these guns and approx market value would be greatly appreciated. I've tried to post pics but can't seem to make them fit but can email pics if that would help. Plan to sell but want to make sure that I price it fairly for both buyer and myself. Thank in advance.

That product code is for a 745 (1987-1990). Your spec ord# indicates it was made in Dec-1987. The FS means stainless frame for autos (fixed sights for revolvers). The SCSW does say they could of had special adjustable sights, but not what brand. I know Bomar sights were on later 845 & 945s.

Hopefully someone else can add more.

The first 5000 guns had a "DVC" serial prefix and the 10th Anniversary engraving on the slide. Those and most of the later guns had a extended Novak fixed sight on them. The last run of the 745s' had a LPA/PSI adjustable sight, not bad but not a BoMar. I've had several and did install a BoMar on one which also required a taller front being dovetailed in, came out nice but added another $200 to it. There is quite a bit of info in here if you just do a search on 745s'.
