I was at a LGS today and in the revolver case was an 8 3/8 barreled model 27-2 in about 90% condition. Whats the going rate on these and how rare is that barrel length?

Some things that could work for you is 90% would make it clearly a shooter gun. Not a collector one. The 8 3/8 barrel is also the least sought after. I would not pay over 650. myself.

I like the 8 3/8 barrel. I could probably get it for around 600.00 as I do a lot of trading with this shop. Any idea on how many 27-2's had the long barrel?

There were a bunch of them made as they used to be very popular. They are slightly out of vogue right now, but I have seen prices steadily rise over the past couple of years as people re-discover the greatness of this barrel length. I have a bunch of N Frame 357's in all barrel lengths - BUT the 8.375" barreled ones are my favorite to shoot - very accurate and the added length helps reduce the recoil - Oh, and by the way - they look way cool as well.

Here is one of my favorite 8.375" 357's (it is a pre-pre-27) :):

How can you NOT love the lines of these long guns...

What's not to like. The prices are rising and they are great shooters. What is the bottom dollar on it?

Here's one that remains un-fired other than the factory

And an S - that is a shooter...

Long barreled 27s don't seem to be as popular as 8 3/8in barreled guns in bigger calibers , at least around here. If it's a P&R gun w/ 3Ts , it'll appeal to collectors. Maybe $750 with case. A non-P&R , about $600

That's a great price as the only people willing to pay a lot more are collectors that want to have a very grade revolver with all the goodies to complete their set of all barrel lengths.

Its a P & R with an N serial # so it doesn't have diamond grips but........I'm gonna buy it!
If this same gun came with the wooden presentation case and all the goodies, what does that add to the purchase price? I might have a chance to get one with the extra goodies and case.

I just spent way too much on one that was NIB with the wood case and tools from the late 1970s. But it is as close to 100% as one can get. Target Hammer and target trigger, Patridge front and I think plain rear sight, a WO sight would be nice, but it will look good next to my similar aged NIB cased 25-2 6".

The price I paid was MUCH more than prices mentioned here, but I will be honest, it has been over 2 years since I have seen a 27-2 with the big barrel in any LGS around Atlanta.
