I have three boxes of 16 rounds ea WW2 8mm Japanese military pistol ammo for the semi autos of that era, the boxes are date coded October of 1939.
Two of the boxes are semi open from age with one end flap present but detached and a split along one side along a seam, another is similar but less "damaged" and the third is fully intact and unopened.
The visible ammo of the open boxes is pristine , and the overall appearance of all three are as to legibility of the marking on both sides of the boxes are excellent.

My question is, obviously what type of real world value can be expected if I decide to offer them for sale?
I would rather sell them as a complete set.

I have been told by one interested buyer $750. for the lot, but he is also going to resell them... I would like to maximize my take for these, I am intending to find and buy a really nice model 28-2 , 4" so need max dollars to get one.

Does anyone with some knowledge in this collectable have any idea on real street value?

thanks for any help, Bob

It really depends on how long you want to wait to get paid. The guy who is buying to resell is money in the bank. You might get double, I have no clue on the actual value of the ammo, but how long will it take to find buyers? I have a Nambu and was initially interested but at $250 a box, that part of the display will remain empty.

I've never felt I needed to get top dollar for anything I sell.

My general rule is that if I'm selling something for top dollar, I'd better like it a lot since I'm going to keep it.

Things sell when you price your goods at a level that allows the buyer an opportunity to make some money on resale. If you can't price it at that level, then you paid too much.

IMHO, $750 for the lot would be a very good price.

Steinel sells *new* 8x20mm Nambu ammo for the Type 14 pistol; a box of 25 rounds for $26.99; so, you would be selling it to a collector--not a shooter:

BTW, the Type 26 revolvers used 9mm (9x22mmR) ammo.

You might check in the International Ammunition Association website. You might be able to buy and sell there also. Or at least run across someone interested in them. Take good pictures first.
