Are the 908S left side safety, and the 3913 ambidextrous safety interchangeable? I want to get rid of the 3913 right side safety for CCW and aesthetic reasons. Is this a difficult job for a non-gunsmith?

It appears that they are. In a previous discussion about 3913 vs 908 safeties, member 586L-Frame posted this:

They all came with a single safety on the

Interesting. Do you know if it was a change based on production date, or was the ambi vs single sided safety some kind of common "option." I've not seen a 3913 (DA/SA) with a single sided safety. Thanks for the info!

Just did a search on google.
MidwayUSA.Com has the 'Single Safety Lever:
Smith & Wesson Manual Safety Body for S&W CS9S, 3913, and SUPER9.

As far as ease of installation of the safety lever, it's not a big deal. I have a 3913 and a 908 and have detail stripped both of them. You'll need something like a very fine jewelers screwdriver to compress the firing pin while you wiggle and push the safety lever assembly out. Be careful not to lose the tiny plunger and spring that are seated in the lever body, however. Do the removal process inside of a clear plastic bag or on a large tray. Stay away from shag carpeting! There's a bit of a trick to it, because you need to be compressing something with one hand and pushing/pulling something with the other when taking it out or putting it back in.

I'd suggest calling S&W for the part first, and also getting a spare plunger and spring just is case. Midway shows a 60 day special order on it. You might also try Brownell's and Numrich, although I did not see it listed on their websites.

Good luck!

Just a word of warning with the springs and safety plungers. My gunsmith had accidentally lost my springs and plungers while putting on my night sights. When he called S+W they were trying to have him send in the slide for the instillation of same until he gave them his S+W armorers ID#....God Bless.....Mike
