910 vs. 915

Sorry for a nooby question, but the model naming scheme for S&Ws autos has me alittle confused. I'm looking at some, I assume, Police trade-in 9mms at Cole Distr. and they list a 910 with the exact same specs as a 915. Is one a second Gen and one a third Gen? or what's the difference? or is this a typo on their part?

Both are 3rd gen and are the same except for a few minor details. The 915 came first and the x15 is for mag capacity. After the 1994 ban S&W started using more plastic parts (op rod guide, mag catch etc.), shipped with 10 round mag and renamed the 915 the 910. The 910 will take the 15 round mag but IMO the 915 would be a better buy. The same holds true for the 411 and 410.

BTW the 6906 on the second page of the Cole's ad is the higher grade of the same gun.

Actually a 5903 would be a stainless/alloy version of the 910/915, the 6906 would be a compact version of the 910/915.
