929 cylinder

Will a cylinder for a 929 fit and work in my 627-5 PC?

The 929 cylinder is 1.426". While the 627 cylinder is 1.570". The 929 cylinder is too short.

I did have a 929 cylinder fitted to my 627. But I also had 0.355 barrel fitted. It was machined from a Shilen blank. Mark Hartshorne of Pinnacle High Performance did the work.

I put a titanium cylinder in my 627-5 as a way to lighten it. Even with a scope on, it weighs 2 ounces lighter than my iron sighted 929.
My issue is...I must load separately for this 627 with Colt Short. My 929's obviously get loaded for 9mm. I'm only going to use this rig for an occasional falling steel match.

Fitting a barrel on top of putting a titanium cylinder would be the way to do it.

Another way to do it, would be to load 9mm bullets in a 38 short colt case. And forego any modifications.

My 327/627 shooting 9mm short colts are my favorite to shoot. Especially in a 8 X clip.

I'm not familiar with the ".38 Short Colt" in a 9X19mm cylinder. I take it the ctg dimensions are identical/near identical to make this work out OK?

If so, wouldn't this be the way to go in, say, a Ruger LCR 9mm??

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like there is no room for the rim on the colt. Or you might have clearance issues. The 9mms on the clips barely fit the cylinder. And the 38 shorts have a larger rim. And those moonclips wouldn't work on the 38s.

38 SC is used in standard 38/357 cylinder, hence no need for modifications in 627. It's diameter and rim is similar to 38SP but height is about as 9x19 so it's popular in competition for faster reloads.

I have shot 38 shorts in my 986. It's a titanium 9mm cylinder. So the cases blow out at the bottom about a .008". (.388" total)
And if you run em through your dies, using a 38 special shell holder and all the 9mm top dies(decapper,resizer,expander, crimp ) you can make a sort of rimmed 9mm. And keep them separate from your straight walled 38 short colts.
