Hi y'all, I found a great condition performance center 952-2 with 6" barrel at a pawn shop for 799 today so it had to follow me home. I shot it this afternoon and it was just as slick and accurate as I was hoping! I do have a few questions though; first, how many performance center 952-2s were made? I've done a good amount of googling and couldn't find a solid number. I'm pretty sure I've gotten a great deal on this one too (it hadn't been in the display case for 24 hours apparently), but I'm not sure what it's honestly worth. If anyone could give me a rough estimate I'd appreciate it! Last but not least does anyone have a resource for finding dates of manufacturing from serial numbers? I'd like to tack down when my pistol was made if I could. Thanks!!!

Congrats on your 952-2!! You stole that one for sure.

I cant help you with how many were made, but as to its value, my local dealer has one with the PC box for $2500 + tax. And he is usually right on the money with pricing.

Enjoy that fine 9. I look forward to your next range report. Maybe some pics of what kind of groups that gun shoots? ;) :) Regards 18DAI

WOW! Color me green with envy! That's about $2,000 less than it should have sold for, according to GB.

S&W Model 952-2 PC

Congratulations on your new S&W.

Pictures please.

That's interesting, I was just reading about that
Pistol in my Handloader magazines in the No. 269
December 2010 page 30.

You got a great deal there. I sold a 952-2 w/5" barrel last year on GB for a little north of $2600. They're great pistols, I just didn't shoot mine enough to keep it.
Did yours come with the AL case?

Thanks for the replies! I shot it earlier today and it was a dream! :)
200 rounds of 115 grain freedom munitions new loads with 0 hiccups and by far the limiting factor in my accuracy was my skill set :D. I can't wait to try using some nicer quality ammo and really take my time on the range. I was getting 2-3" groups at 15 yards but honestly I was just too damn excited and was blowing through my mags about as quickly as I could load them. I know the gun (and I) can shoot better than that lol

After a good cleaning this thing looks nearly brand new. When I bought it, it had a lot of carbon in the chamber/feeding ramp area and I was worried that maybe it was priced so low because it had mechanical issues or something, but it locks up solidly and has functioned flawlessly at the range so far.

Does anyone know where I can find the manufacturing date by serial number? Mine is DAB09xx. Also yes, I've got the aluminum case and two mags, but no papers unfortunately

It looks you picked up a 952-2 long slide -- which typically goes for a large premium over the regular 952-2.

At $799 you got an amazing deal (often go for $4k plus on GB).

Congratulations on a great find!

Congratulations on what I think is the deal of the year! They are few & far between at any price. Another example of someone not knowing what they have & you certainly benefited from it.

This thread could be an interesting social experiment.

For anyone who clicked here and read the OP, try and ask yourself... which of these more closely resembles your knee-jerk reaction?

1) ARRRGH!!! Why can't I find a deal like this! Who is this guy and why is he so lucky, I'll never afford one of these or even close.

2) Wow, this is amazing, that someone could stumble on to this deal even here in the age of the internet. This gives me hope that I might find an amazing deal one day also!

My reaction was that pawn shop owners aren't really that stupid! So, maybe the pawn owner thought the gun might be stolen and unloaded it fast. I have no idea what the law is if the local police audit the shop and find the gun was stolen.

???

Well maybe the owner had mistaken the $$ lookup as a model 52 instead of a 952?

I think you just got the deal of the year! Congratulations on that acquisition that is a thing of beauty:) I am beyond envious, I guess I need to start visiting Pawn Shops instead of Gun Shops on my days off.
Wow that is simply sweet!!

Lou Gehrig ' luckest man on the face of the earth'.

Go get some lotto tickets my man, you are on a roll.

I have lots of nice guns in the safe but, 952-2 is the pick
of the litter.

Enjoy that queen.

Wow! Congratulations. That is a heck of a find. The long slides collect a premium. The one pictured was a limited run version of the long slide. Very nice and beautiful gun.

I have one and recently tried to bid on another. I stopped when the price went over 3500ish.

Congratulations again.

I doubt that he did any research. "Oh,another Smith automatic? 800 bucks should do."
I had a 952-1.I'm basically a rimfire guy,so it left, but it was a very nice gun.The equal of my Les Baer 1911. I would have done well financially if I just stashed it away...I even had Nills on it,so it was super nice.

Thanks for the replies! Yep I feel damn lucky. I've listed it on gunbroker at the encouragement of my girlfriend (and a few cold ones heh) but now I'm regretting it and honestly hoping it doesn't sell. I bought it since it seemed like a crazy deal and I've been dreaming of a target 9mm auto, not to flip it and now that I'm 100% sure I got a great deal I'd rather sell my poly guns! I think I'm going to pull the auction tonight. It's just so damn pleasant to shoot and it's gotta be the most accurate gun I've ever shot by far. I took it to the range again yesterday and it's just crazy how tiny it groups at 15 yards with plain ol Fiocchi 115 grain. I'm a decent shot but pretty irregularly get to the range, and even so it was child's play to chew out the bullseye.

I've never gotten a better deal than this, that's for sure! And just in case anyone doubts that's what they had it listed for (which is reasonable! I've seen tons of these sorts of claims through the years and doubted them) attached is the receipt with identifying info redacted. If it was stolen I'd expect the NICS check to pull that up... but then again who knows how long that takes to get in the system. I really hope it isn't though. It seems like the store seriously didn't know what they had.
