I am almost through selling all of my semi-autos and am limiting my attention to revolvers. I have a bunch of 9mm ammo and think my next revolver logically should be a 986.

Wondering what others who have a 986, or used to have one, think of it. I plan to put a red dot on it and use it as a range toy.

I have had my 986 for several years now and love it. It is accurate, has a great smooth action but for me the wood grips that came with it are too narrow and hurt my hand. I have Pach rubbers and wooden Culina Combat and Round to Square conversion grips which make a huge difference in comfort. I also tried Hogue Tammers but they are not as comfortable as the Pachs if you are going for rubbers. I shoot it a lot and it is great.

Forum vendor Protocall_Design sold me a 6" Walther barrel that I installed on my 986...real tack driver at 50 yards now that it has true .355 barrel vs the factory 357 barrel.

Liked the gun so much that I turned down a 686 PLUS cylinder for it. Now can shoot 9mm with clips and 38 spl/Colt short/long with speed loaders.

If that's the case, you should go for the 929 - why settle for seven when you can have eight? LOL

In either case, I'd recommend RIMZ polymer moon clips...

Adios,

Take a closer look of where the locking notch on the cylinder is located between the 986 vs 929 if capacity is not that important.
