Hi all. I really enjoyed overall shooting my 9c with the 17rnd mag when at the range recently and it got me thinking. For range distances (seem to be anywhere from 10 yds up to 25 yds at indoor locations), does the longer barrel (and perhaps sight line) on the full size 9 offer any better accuracy over the compact version? I figure many on here have both in their collection so may have some good insight on this one.
Not talking changing sights, and knowing any pistol i have will be more accurate then I ever will be, just curious if for target shooting if one is better then the other at range distances.
Keep in mind, all answers may be shown to my better half, as 'proof' I need to expand my own little collection yet again.
;)

thanks!

I find the 5" Pro 9mm with FO sights to be easier to shoot rapidly and accurately beyond 15 yards. It is popular in IDPA/SSP and USPSA Production

The longer sight radius of the full size may allow for better groups if both are hand held. Lock them down into a machine rest and the difference will be only that of two individual barrels. I shoot them both and find the compact is more accurate for me simply because it feels better in the hand.

Both my 9c & and fs9 hit 6"steel plates @ 20 yards equally now. 9c came with newer twist barrel and I recently acquired a fs9 newer twist barrel. The older twist was hit or miss " pun intended" with the older slower twist.

I don't think I shoot my 5" Pro any better than my full sized, but, at longer distances, I certainly can't shoot my compact as accurate.

Add me to the list that shoots a pro more accurately than the compact. I am not at l suggesting it the gun but rather the sight radius. With the longer sight radius it's easier to hold on target for me.

If the shorter barreled pistols were just as accurate as the longer barreled ones, what would be the point of making a longer barrel?? How many short barreled sniper rifles have you seen?

There are several out there in 20" or less and for a sniper rifle that's pretty short. Short barrel pistols carry more easily but for sure, the longer the sight radius, the easier to hold on a target. With a really good shooter you'd be amazed at how accurate the little guns are, most of us aren't that good.

I felt more accurate with the FS for sure. But the compact can hold it's own, no problem

thanks all. While i'm definitely more accurate at the range with my Buckmark then my 9c, i'll admit that's a combination of the longer barrel/sight the BM has, plus i'm still learning the feel of the 9mm (only been shooting one a couple months) compared to the .22.
I am better on the 9c with the full size mag, allowing me a similar feel that i have when gripping my BM giving me more confidence. That said, with my crappy old guy eyesight i'm still working on the best way (with different glasses, etc) on what gives me the optimum view and accuracy when i get in the 15-25 yd range anyway.
I think i'll just continue to work with the 9c, and when i get to the point i have it down pat, then can decide if that's the "right" 9 for me and what i want out of a gun or if a swap to a full size would be best. After all, i'm sure both my BM and 9c (heck my old Colt Challenger as well) will always be more accurate then i will be.
;)
The feedback is always appreciated here, thx

On the other hand, how many dedicated bench rest rifles are made with a 26" barrel?

Everything is a trade off.
