Got an email that Optics Planet had 9m/m brass ammo on sale for 47% off! I get all excited to look at the deal because Optics Planet normally has pretty good pricing and I was going to buy all I could afford. Well I get on their site and see the ammo is their cheap Sumbro 124 grain FMJ 50 rd box ammo reduced to only $36.99 plus shipping and sales tax. So if its on sale that means there normal price is about 70 bucks per box. Wow, a bit over a year ago you could get good 9m/m brass practice ammo at Academy and Walmart for under ten bucks for 50 rounds. I guess I just have trouble living in the past too much and not dealing with reality.

You should start reloading.

I will never purchase anything from Optics Planet ever again. I swore off of them 10 years ago and have never looked back.

I haven't bought any ammo in about a year, but I used to get really good deals at TargetSportsUSA.com. They ran out of ammo a year ago....I got into reloading this past December.

A year ago I was buying 9mm Federal for 18 bucks for 100 rounds.

I bought 1000 rounds of Federal black box brass 115 grain hardball back in January 2020 for 170 bucks. I didn't know what was coming but I knew at that price I was too lazy to reload it. $.17 a round and free once fired brass looked like a deal to me.

I've heard good & bad concerning their business tactics.
What kind of experience did you have?
I came close to pulling the trigger with them, yet always back out...:rolleyes:

On more than several occasions I've ordered an item, CC immediately charged, only to find out a week later that the item isn't/wasn't even in stock when I ordered it. Then waiting another few weeks to have the $$ returned to my CC. Yep, it's an ongoing practice with them. There's plenty of more reputable companies out there to do business with. Optics Planet isn't one of them.

Ah, the good old days. CCI Blazer Brass for $169/1,000 shipped free. I remember those good times. Local stores selling all brands of 9mm range ammo for $.16/rd. Going to the range 2-3 times/week and no worries about the ammo going down range. Yes sir, those were the days... :-( And $1.99 gas, how time flies....

I know, right?

Outstanding advice ... directly on par with - You should buy lots of ammo in 2019. :D

This is wrong. You obviously haven't looked.

The attitude of "well, I'll never make myself independent of ammo makers because some people have a hard time buying components now" is kind of silly.

Buy the equipment, start buying components, and always buy components when you see them available.

Just last night I bought 1,000 125 gr. Plated Hollow points for my 38s and 357s online from X-treme bullets for $120.

I see powder all day every day.

I see primers all day every day, but they are just limited now to about 200 in my area.

I see brass all day every day on auction sites or stuff that I've saved over the years.

You guys obviously aren't looking too hard! I get it, reloading can be a hassle if you don't like to do it, but then don't complain when you can't go find nice boxes of finished ammo for $9.99 / 50 like you could with 9mm before.

I have cabinets full of ammo for all the calibers I shoot and much of it was reloaded in the past 3-6 months with recently-bought components.

That won't work because the people that don't have ammo also don't have reloading components. My thinking is since he thinks it's good too start reloading maybe he has a secret place too get components that he would share with us so we can reload.
 Larry

Again, wrong. Many places I go to have lots of reloading components but no loaded ammo in certain calibers.

Local shops, big box stores, the internet, etc.

They are all over.

They are not all over North Central Florida or online. I have seen one box of primers in the last year for $120.00 in a local gun shop. Of course you can buy them for that much and more at Gunbroker but not for anything reasonable. I have plenty so I am good, but if someone does not have primers already they are are wasting time and money to try a get into reloading at this point unless they just want to get set up for later by buying dies at triple what they should be.

And one other note for reloading while I'm on my soap box ^^^^^ :)

What do you think is a great way to make loaded ammo prices go down? Don't you think if a lot more people reloaded, the strain on the loaded ammo market would lessen, demand would lessen, and prices would fall again?
