9mm 124 gr FMJ at 1.165" OAL ?

I have tried the "Ball" fmj 124 gr 9mm bullet from 1.09" to 1.14" OAL
in a lot of my loads in my pistols.

Family members have moved up from 3" to several 4" pistols, which
I do not have any more but want to ask, if any of you that have pistols
that will swallow this long seated load, if you get any accuracy with a 1.165" seating?

It worked in my C9 3.5", five years ago when I had some GI cases
but that was the last time I used that OAL in any of my test. (944fps)

Just would like some info before I try loading primers and powders.

I'm using WSF 4.7 gr. with 124gr FMJ and 1.165 length and I find it very accurate

My accurate JHP loads are 1.12"-1.13". I notice the reloading manuals give the same COL values for ball and JHP and the JHP bullets are fuller in ogive, I propose the reason I'm finding the JHP more accurate than any ball round is the longer bearing surface and reduced jump to the throat.
That suggests that a longer loading would be more accurate but I think the concern is that length might not fit and feed well in all magazines, so make sure you check that a full magazine can be easily loaded and unloaded in all weapons you plan to use it with before sitting down and churning out a ton of them.

I load my Nosler 124gn JHP to 1.09. Of course, I am also on top of a compressed charge of slow burning 800X, so there's that. They cycle, and they hit where I aim very hard.

My CZ P-07 has the tightest chamber of all my 9mms. I load COAL to match the CZ's headspace less15 thou and feed them in all the others satisfactorily.

I will load a few long OAL with the 124 gr and heavier bullets that I have in 9mm and will see how they do in the "Kids" pistols, since they shoot a lot better than I do, now.

Just hope that the stores around here get more bullets on their shlves........

I'd get ahold of a Q4318 NATO round. That's M882, more or less. It'll give you a working COAL.

I've never paid a lot of attention to COL for pistol ammo. I think my COL for ball is 1.15". It looks too long to my eye but I've seen factory loaded ball at 1.16". 1.15" has always worked for me in my HK's and Sigs.

The only gun I have to worry about is my CZ's. They have the shortest feed throat. So, I plunk to that, and it works for all of my other guns.

This is my go to 9mm Cartridge. I tried it in two
different 9mm Pistols, chambered in both,
shooters said they were soft recoil. Next I will
reload them closer to 1000fps.

I loaded some 147 grain round nose to that OAL. Shot fine, but occasionally one ould hang up in the magazine. 1.165 is listed as max in a couple manuals I have. Each bullet/handgun combination is a law unto itself, of course.


Correction: max length is 1.69”

SAAMI specification for the 9x19mm Parabellum indicates a maximum OAL of 1.169". I load my 124 grain FMJ loads to an OAL of 1.155", which seems to be in the range of factory load lengths for this style and weight of bullet.

those are max mini loads in my book...........
In my 3.5" 9mm with a 124 fmj and 3.8 grs of Bullseye, I get 945fps.

You better check for holes in your targets or "Dust" with that load...........

any stove pipes with that load ?

I have been loading the Berry's 124gr RN at 1.160", based on data listed on their website. These feed fine through my P320 but I have not made any serious measurements of accuracy. What's another 0.005"?

Not every bullet nose profile is identical ... some makers are longer and more pointy ...some are shorted and fatter .
Check the bullet makers reloading manual ...

Big 10-4 !!

When you start shoving a long 147 gr bullet in the little 9mm case.......
you will quickly learn about bullet shapes and case volumes.

The 124-125 bullet has lots of play for loaders..............
always a good thing.
