Was cleaning some brass and found about 25 9mm casings with a headstamp that says S&W Did they make their own ammo?

A few decades ago S&W marketed quite a bit of ammo.....I don't think they actually made any. It was made by someone else and branded S&W.

With a minumum order, you can have anything put in the headstamp of cases. Prolly S&W had some cases with "S&W" on the headstamp sent to an ammo manufacturer to produce "S&W" ammunition.

Yep... they had the "Nyclad" line the Federal did for them, the was the lead bullet encased in nylon instead of a copper jacket. I understand during the course of it's production the cases were head stamped S&W or Federal.

Interestingly the Nyclad bullet has made a come back under the Cabela's "Herter" ammo brand, which is essentially aluminum cased CCI Blazer ammo with a nylon encased bullet.

When that nylon cased bullets were going out of style, I was able to obtain a few thousand in 38 caliber and it shot great. I wish I still had some now.

I had some and wasn't real impressed at the time. But I notice that a LOT of people like them.

I still have some old S&W boxes but I wrapped them with duct tape to strengthen them.:(

IIRC Fiochi produced that S&W head stamped ammo. Came in blue and white boxes.
