9mm load for 115 gr LSWC and Unique

I bought some 115 gr LSWC to help my son start reloading for his 9mm. I haven't found any reloading info for any lead bullets either on the Alliant web site or in my Speer manual. I have a couple lbs of Unique powder so would prefer to start with that. Any load suggestions would be appreciated.

I usually consider 10% below max for a jacketed bullet of the same weight the max for a lead bullet. So if your max load was 10 grains for example for a 115 grain jacketed bullet. 9 grains would be max for the lead bullet so I'd start off at 8.1 to 8.5 grains and start working up.

I run 3.8gr and reduced spring weight, shoulder seated near flush with casemouth. GREAT plinkin/target load from my 539. I also have some over 4.5gr, I believe these ran a stock spring IIRC.

What Brand bullet?

The only thing I could find was for a LRN in the Lyman #49 manual.

It lists, for their #356242 120 gr. bullet, a starting load of 4.0 gr which gives a velocity of 1013 fps with pressure of 26,500 CUP and a max load of 5.0 gr of Unique which gives 1194 fps at a pressure of 32,800 CUP.

9mm and Unique

I have never had any success with unique and 9mm loads....by success I mean real accuracy. I can get the gun to function, but the groups are really poor. However, I have found that the pressure curve required in the 9mm to function some older guns (Luger) are quite steep and the loads do not promote accuracy.
I was told that VVN330 was designed for the 9mm and wow, what a wake-up that was. My loads functioned perfectly and the accuracy from my 952 and 3566 was world class. The guns function perfectly and even my Glock 17L works well.....
115gr or 124gr Montana Gold HP: 5.0gr. VVN330: R-P cases; Fed.primers.
The 952 or 3566 will shoot 1.5"@50 yds. with this load.
Another powder that works.....same bullets....4.0gr. 231

Try 2.6 - 3.4 grains of Titegroup with the 115g SWC. My RR with Kart barrel likes 2.6g, it groups 1 1/16" at 25 yds (YMMV). It is very soft shooting and a short line load.
P.S. This may not cycle your pistol.

Use tite group and see if your happy with that. If not look at H110.

I've not played with a lot of lead bullet handloads in the 9mm but 5.0 grains of Unique works well in two of my three 9mm guns with cast lead bullets that weigh 115 grains. I've worked up to 6.0 grains of Unique in a Luger to gain more reliable function but that may be a bit brisk by the standards of today's handloading manuals. Unique is my very favorite propellant for 9mm. It's really great with jacketed bullets as well. It's so good its boring.

I'm using 4.5 and 5gr Unique with 125gr lead bullets in my 9mm. Works fine.

H110 in a 9mm? Hodgdon doesn't show any 9mm loads using H110.

Somewhere between 5.0 & 5.5 grain unique should give fine groups and good velocity. The flat point will make a fine small game load and cut nice holes in the paper.

My old Lyman books lists loads for their 121 grain cast bullets. Starting load with Unique is 4.4 grains (999 fps) with a max of 6.0 grains (1243 fps). I use jacketed bullets myself and load them over 5.3 grains Unique. Works very well for me. Unique is excellent in the 9MM.
