Some weeks ago I bought a new M&P CORE in 9mm for an upcoming defensive handgun class at Front Sight in NV. I spent another $400 for a Leupold red dot sight and close to another $100 for a Blade Tech holster and mag holder set with extras. However, I won't be able to take my four figure investment to Front Site because they require each student to have THREE magazines. The pistol comes with two, but I've visited numerous gun stores in three states and can't find a spare mag. The shop I purchased the fun from hasn't had any since January of this year. What gives?

I'm a 15 year Glock shooter and have recently considered switching over to M&P. The 9mm mag situation is inexcusable! Shame on S&W! From what I read, this has been the situation from day one regarding the 9mm M&P guns.

You're misreading the Front Sight requirements. They recommend at least 3 mags. You can do it with 2, but you'll be loading your mags more. You do have two 15 round mags, right?

I've been to Front Sight several times. I was able to do the 4 day handgun class with just 2, 10 round mags for my .45 M&P. I had more, but I only used the two. It is nicer to have three though.

They may question you about the Leupold red dot sight. In fact, I wouldn't even take it. The school is called "Front Sight" for a reason.

Midway will let you put in a back order currently for 17 round magazines but they don't have an ETA: Smith & Wesson Mag S&W M&P 9mm Luger 17-Round Steel Blue

They do have 10 round magazines in stock and one or two of those may solve your immediate issue with needs for the class: Smith & Wesson Mag S&W M&P 9mm Luger 10-Round Steel Blue

Thanks so much for the post CharlesWA. Got my M&P 9mm today & ordered 2 10 round magazines for it because I am in a high cap ban state. BTW I see the 10 rounders going for crazy prices on Ebay.

I have a 9c, and those magazines are just impossible to find. So today I thought I'd try something, I ordered one of the 10 round FS magazines from Midway, and when it comes in, I'm going to see if I can put my 9c baseplate on it. Looking at the pics, it would appear that the 10 round magazines use the same tube for FS and compact. I'll let you know how I make out.

FS 9mm mags work and give the M&P9c a larger capacity. Using the X-Grip or an equivalent over the exposed part of the magazine gives the grip a better feel. I've competed in USPSA using an M&P 40c with FS mags fitted with X-Grips. Good luck finding the M&P 9 or 9c mags in stock. CharlesWA has a good suggestion backordering with MidwayUSA. That Larry Potterfield seems to run a good company.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ordered a ten round mag from Midway and will take along the allen wrenches just in case they won't allow the red dot, which was also a good point.

The red dot should be no problem. I used one for a day, but I found regular sights faster - because I'm not used to a dot.

A buddy of mine was in a small town close to here at a Rural King and the Had there Mags on sale. There was few M&P 9fs mags laying there and he picked 2 of them for $18.95 a piece. They are Pro Mags. Have not shot with them yet but everything functions fine and they fall free. Jim

I got 2 extra Pro Mags 2 weeks ago and have shot 30 rounds trough each of them and they are fine thus far. Only time will tell how they hold up.

just get the 10 round mags for now...will help the situation. I now have 4 10s for my 9mm

i just picked up a 32 round from cabelas... it holds 35 though..

thats 5 more than my so-called "assault rifle" lol
