9mm PMC SFX 124gr Starfire HP Review

Most of the 9mm reviews that I did were shot with two guns.
A SIG 365 SAS, with a 3.1 inch barrel and a Taurus G3 with a 4 inch barrel.
First I do forensic exam of the ammunition. Next I shoot a group while chronographing with each gun. 10 yards with the SIG, three rounds and 15 yards with the G3, five rounds. Chronograph is a Oehler 35P
Then the ammunition is shot out of each gun into a 55 gallon plastic barrel of water. The bullets are then recovered, photographed and then measured for expansion. In cases where the bullet fragments and loses its jacket, a weight is taken with all the recovered material and also a weight taken with just the lead core.

This is some nice shooting ammunition. In spite of the one jacket separation, expansion was quite satisfactory given the modest velocity. Accuracy was good. Note the 'star' in the middle of the mushroom.
Ammoseek.com shows a price range from $0.40 to $1.37 per round. Everywhere I frequent pricing is around $0.50 to $0.60 per round. They come in 20 and 50 round boxes. This is another great choice for the economy minded shooter.

Thanks for the test, but I'm no fan of this brand. I've always found PMC 9mm so downloaded it comes close to not operating my European sprung pistols. That's probably why the 'bang and clang' crown love it for the low recoil. I reckon PMC stands for Pretty Mediocre Cartridges.

Is that COAL actually at 1.012" for that ammo?

I also see a "SP" in the title, (in yellow type ) that might be a "SFX" ?

Hi Ed.. Well, I'm old too.. I don't see the 'SP' that you are referring to..
The C.O.L. is what I measured. I don't have the ammo any longer so I can't re-confirm..

Your data is probably correct.

That ammo has a more rounded Ogive on it's bullet and it is probably different in OAL than my Berry THP that I used in my data.

That company might use that very short OAL in it's ammo, in that case, but I have yet to find a JHP bullet that does well for me in factory or my reloads, that is shorter than a Berry THP at just, 1.075" OAL.

That is the only reason that I asked the question on the oal.

The 124gr Speer Gold Dot is set around 1.12", which is just a wee bit longer than the PMC 124gr ammo.
