If every one agrees that the 9mm is never fatal and hardly dangerous why is it considered assault with a deadly weapon to shoot someone with one?

James Bond used a .25 and .32 maybe folks from elsewhere aren't so tough.

Fact: ANYTHING that fires a projectile above fifty feet per second can be deadly, even a child's BB gun under certain circumstances.
Fact: NO round from anything is GUARENTEED to be a "stopper" in a fight.
Fact: Solid rounds at a specific velocity....i.e. Full metal jacket or "Ball" ammunition tend to make a small hole going in and a small hole going out. Most 9mm ammo falls into this.
Fact: It is the ability to call your shots...to put rounds exactly where you aim them...that makes them a "stopper", so to speak.
IMHO modern 9mm +P+ hollowpoints are on a par with a .357 Magnum or a .38 Super. I use them in my Browning High Power.
BTW for a 9mm (using ball ammo) not to be fatal and hardly dangerous it has sure generated a lot of battlefield casualties in the over a century it has been in use around the world.

If I'm not mistaken, .22 long rifle can be a fatal round with the proper shot placement... and a little bit of luck!

Yup for two reasons: First they are trained to hit what they aim at (so caliber does't matter). Chest and Brain shots usually stop the fight fast. Double taps need low recoil at speed. 2nd because 9mm ammo is available anywhere they go in the world.
They carry Sig P226. Salt Water doesn't hurt the ploymer frame, and stainless steel doesn't rust fast.
Plus everybody knows that the US military carries the Beretta 92. So this gives a very small amount of cloak if caught carring.
Try getting some .40cal in BumFE.

Just making a late day effort at humor. When he was young my father was shot walking to work by a kid clearing a .22 after a squirrel hunt. The shot was bad enough but in those days before penicillin the infection nearly killed him. Based on recent threads I should ask what size snake to use to beat off a bear attack
Heads up, the Sig P226 does not have a polymer frame.

Don't know about the 9MM's stopping power but Germany has been using that caliber for over 100 years. And I guess for good effect.

I remember a case where a guy who had been beating on his wife tried to kick in the door. Well this guy was about 6'3" and 250 pounds but his wife had a Browning Hi-Power. He flattened the door and she emptied all 13 rounds into this guy starting at his gut and walking it right up into his head, one round hitting over his left eye. I'm not sure about how well it does in every situation, but that guy is as dead as Julius Caesar.
I don't think I would ever want to get hit with a 9mm, and while its not as good as a .45 I am not eager to stand in front of it.
I'm sure there are some families that lost some GI's to 9mm pistols and German submachine guns during WWII that would differ about the round being never fatal.

This 9mm, it's not one of those CTGs, is it? I don't trust them CTGs. Maybe that's why folks don't like 9mm.
