I have noticed that if the slide is locked open on my 9mm Shield, if I put in a loaded magazine, the top bullet(round) makes contact with the ejector. However, if I load the gun with the slide closed, it does not make contact with the ejector. I'm used to firing my weapon and when the last round is fired, placing another loaded magazine in while the slide is still locked back. This is the fastest way to re-load. It seems this will damage the ejector.

I never noticed the that until I read your post. So it's not really an issue. The top round is close to the ejector, but not causing any issues for me. I have shot over 500 rounds in my shield and have never had a problem. Have you put any rounds down range yet? If not. Got to the range and put some lead down range and enjoy your shield.

Same here and mine is WELL over 1000 rounds now.

I have only put 25 rounds through it, however, it still seems that hitting the ejector(When slide is locked back) with the top round in magazine is at some point going to damage the ejector. For now, I will load mags. with slide closed. Will call S&W when they open after holidays.

I have about 900 rounds down range, no issue. Best to call Smith and make sure all is good. Let us know what they say please.

I think you are nit picking. The ejector does not move. It is hidden in the slide when closed.. Loading a magazine with or without the slide locked back will make no difference. When you fire your shield the next round will be right there near the ejector feeding into the chamber. Unless you have a bent ejector then nothing can be done to fix what you are describing. All M&P's are like that. See my pics. FS 9 1st, Shield 9 2nd.

O.K. AR-Getsome, looked at your pix and I do see the gap. There is not much room, but there is a space between the top round and ejector. Spoke with a S&W armorer and he stated he thought the same as I did at first, but he was able to slide a thin piece of paper between the top round and ejector. He also stated that he/I were getting fooled into believing the round was making contact with the ejector due to the clicking noise made when the magazine is seated. Thanks for your pix, I'm convinced now. I am over the top on pistol reliability, but I was involved in a shooting in 1995(struck in each thigh with .45) and since that day, I really inspect each gun top to bottom.

There is nothing wrong with checking your Guns from top to bottom. I'm the same way. Most people do not do that. I'm glad there isn't an issue with your shield. Have fun, Be safe. By the way WELCOME to the forum....and the addiction.

Must post a correction. My above post is 100% correct, the top bullet in my magazine was not hitting the ejector when seating the magazine. However, the armorer called back today and stated we had used the 8 round magazine when checking this issue. He used the 7 round magazine today and found when the magazine is first put into the gun, the top round does make the slightest contact with the ejector. The rim of the round is where contact with ejector is made. It is easy to see when you put pressure on the bottom of the magazine as you seat it. Once the 7 round magazine is falls into place and is seated, no more contact is made. He tested it the same way he did with the 8 round magazine. unlike with the 8 round magazine, he was unable to slide a thin piece of paper between the round and ejector. His advise, don't slap the 7 round magazine in. Be a bit more gentle. He noted the design difference between the 7 and 8 round magazines as the reason why one makes contact and the other does not.

I do not slam or slap my magazines in. Even during IDPA competition. But thanks for sharing you info. How do you like your shield otherwise? I use the 8 round mags. I rarely use the 7.

Thanks for info guys. This kind of thread is what makes the forum worth watching.

I like the gun very much. Very accurate pistol. I do believe I will trade my 7 round magazine, plus some cash I'm sure, for another 8 round magazine just to solve the issue.

Went Sat. to a gun store about 40 minutes north of where I live. Gave my 7 rnd. mag. plus $17 and got another 8 rnd. mag. My concerns now gone.

Naturally, I had to check mine after reading the OP. Neither one of my mags causes the round to contact the ejector, unless I push up on the bottom of the magazine. I can see about .01 clearance. But, there is enough up and down play in the magazine well to make the top round contact the ejector if I push the mag up lightly.

Bozz10mm, I have been lucky that neither of my 8 rnd. mags. make contact at any point. However, my 7 rnd. mag. did.
