Weather permitting I'm looking at a local auction this evening with what looks to be a NIB Tokarev TT series pistol in 9x19. Comes with all accessories and two 9rd mags. It has a slide mounted safety however it is marked as an American Arms model TT9 not the M57 I've seen in the past. It is a Zastava produced pistol and I found an old post on Tokarev.com that stated this model was only imported in 1989-90 and differs from the M57 in that rather than being added/retrofitted with the safety to meet import requirements this pistol was designed and built with the safety.

I've never owned nor fired a Tokarev in any caliber but this one seems like it would make an interesting and possibly useful addition to the armory. Perhaps more so if I can get it relatively cheaply which, to be honest is the only way I plan on getting it. Even if only imported for a short time, read a reference to under 1,000 pieces, I don't seeing it having any collector value so I'm looking at it more as a truck gun, plinker as well as something unusual. Anyone know anything about these?

I bought a Zastava M 57, the TT's cousin in 7.62 X 25.
The TT has had a safety added as do all imports.
What I liked about the M 57's sold by Classic Firearms is the safety is in the trigger, Glock like. Easily replaced with a TT trigger. Which I did.
And the import marking is very small under trigger guard.

Zastava's are well built.
The 7.62 X 25 is a blast to shoot. Especially at night.

Good luck bidding.

Looks like you are considering the best of the pistol bunch.

Yeah, slim pickings for handguns. Started snowing a few minutes ago so it's moot at this point. Only other guns I was interested in were the Hakim, the two Mosin Magant M91 rifles, "Russian Mausers" and the Ithaca M37 riot gun.

I brought a Chinese made Tok (7.62x25). back from Viet Nam. I shot a couple of boxes of ammo through it. I recall that it was a simple and rugged pistol, but nothing to get excited about. I soon sold it for a good price to a general that wanted it for display. I do not regret selling it, and have no desire for another one.
