A Cautionary Tale

The reason I proposed that the factory warranty might be voided is that most gun owners lack the proper hollow-ground screwdrivers needed to avoid "Bubba-ing" the screw slots. That is a dead giveaway that someone untrained has been inside the gun.

I too wondered if the return was to Smith & Wesson or the seller.

I've had three experiences you might call negative out of several dozen GunBroker purchases and all three were handled to my complete satisfaction. You have to buy from sellers with a good track record who offer a return policy and pay with a credit card. Do those three things and you're usually in good shape but if things go south, the credit card company will be on your side.

"By the way, prior replies demonstrate how poorly many of us often read posts. The original poster did not write whether he got a return shipping label from S&W or the Gun Broker seller. A few replies assumed it was from S&W's customer service."

I made that assumption, right or wrong, because I had thought that you would only get a "shipping label" for a factory warranty return. To ship back to the Gun Broker seller would require going through an FFL dealer.

I opened it up and somehow the trigger spring was put in wrong

That reminds me that the model 66-2 I purchased on GB had trigger issues, too. Turns out that it had been disassembled for cleaning by the seller and put back together incorrectly. The seller paid to have it checked out and fixed (properly reassembled) by a gunsmith and it has since proven to be a fantastic shooter.

When I started reading this, I started thinking that you sent money and didnt get the gun or got a refinished gun that was sold as original etc.

I dont think you got burned at all. These kind of things happen in life and it will get fixed and at the end of the day you will have a nice gun.

As long as a stud isn't broken this is a 5 minute fix. Not a biggy. Get a Brownells Magna-Tip screw driver set so you have all bits necessary to disassemble you revolvers, and you'll find the concerns like the one you expressed here become FAR less stressful.

Hate to say it, but, I would worry less about Gunbroker than the local FFL that I'm forced to deal with when purchasing a firearm online.

Gun Broke

With the fast pace of Society and the "I want it now"
culture of today, one has to be so careful.

One thing I learned several years ago while bidding
on Gunbroker for a S&W 625 45Colt, just hand your
hard earned money over to someone you don't know.

2. Behind the scenes bidding "Shill bidding" is ramped,
don't be naïve and think it doesn't.

3. And what ever you do don't ask any questions,
that got me "locked" from bidding.

I did find a Model 625 45Colt local. Saved $300 and
just by luck my neighbor had one, and know I shot
a lot and reloading everything.

Learned my lesson. Now I just buy local and be patient
on finding what I want.

Really ? Does S&W use "tattletale" paint markings like Honda or something like that ?

No. it won't 'void" the warranty. Unauthorized modifications might, but it's perfectly fine for the end user (you, the owner) to removed the side plate for cleaning/inspection of YOUR firearm.
