A change in Walmart's 22 ammo?

Walmart is still selling 22 ammo but they first ship ammo to high volume hunting locations not big city stores in general. Before the panic Walmart got an extra 10-15% savings over the price that distributors paid. Once the panic ammo makers told Wally to go screw and made them pay the same price that everyone else pays. Some ammo makers are now making a Walmart size box which has less ammo so Wally can make more profit. Hording is some of the problem but dealer greed is a big part. I found out from the local District Manager that ammo was always put out at 8:00 AM but sells out quick. I showed up one day and caught the owner of a local gunstore trying to purchase all 22 ammo. He had been selling it at twice the price.

There are routinely 7-8 people who camp out in the sporting goods section for hours at a time awaiting a shipment. When it arrives, they buy it all, and I see these same people re- selling at the next gun show for excessive scalper price.

This is what is causing the shortage. Walmart should record the names of purchasers (internal use only). With their names popping up everyday, Walmart could easily see that most of their customers are being undercut by these scalpers and take corrective measures. Instead, they maintain the first come, first serve capitalist approach.

I haven't been able to find any .22 cal at my local Walmart for longer than I can remember. However, I do see the same people camped out in the sporting goods isle. (Yes, some even bring their lunch and borrow Walmarts folding chairs to wait in).

In the cold snap we've been experiencing lately (2 nights ago), I had to go out to Walmart to stock up on soup, etc, but I didn't buy the shelves bare. Just a few cans to get by on.

While there, I wandered over to sporting goods. Isle was un-inhabited, I assume from the poor weather. Much to my amazement, there were 3 bricks of Federal .22 cal in the 525 packs on the shelf.

I bought one ($20.97) and took it, along with my soup, and headed back in the storm for home.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Your own words "However, I do see the same people camped out in the sporting goods isle."convict you. You are there with the very people you blame for you not finding ammo. I highly suggest that you just get there earlier and quit blaming others because you can't find ammo.

And being that they're the #1 retailer of ammo in the country, it would make no economic sense for them to stop carrying something that sells out within hours of hitting the shelves, like .22 bulk packs. I suppose it's possible that they would, because of all the negative publicity they receive over their ammo sales. (Gougers are getting it all, employees are stashing it for their buddies, employees are charging kickbacks to let people know when the ammo comes in, yadda yadda yadda) For every person complaining, there are 3 people who get a good percentage of their ammo at Walmart at a decent price. Money talks, you know what walks.

Trouble is is, they KNOW it would still sell out if they severely limited the same group of few who buy it all-thus improving their image to more than just a few. Like someone above said, they dont care about loyal customers SOME of the time. Reason I say some of the time is because a very nice lady there gets me my two cases of Monster Moca Loca in to get when I need them.

Stocking? Just today I was over at Walmart. They had some ammo including 9mm. No 22. When I asked about the 22 the lady says- we are actually getting in more 22. OK! But- one guy cones in and buys all of it.
So I say- what happened to the buy limit? She say- The manager removed the limit because we are getting more in.
Say what? It don't matter to me how much they get in if I can't walk in and buy a couple of big bulk boxes.
This too will pass? I hope.

Prime case on W/m dropping the ball on the one yard line.

So it is confirmed? There are capitalists in the United States of America? How did that happen?

With the current 22 ammo crisis, I am curious as to why you only bought one 525 pack.
Personally, I would have passed on the soup and bought all the ammo, gone to the gun show, profited in a criminal fashion, then went back, and bought all the soup with the profits.

Maybe he didnt buy it all is because he isnt greedy, neither am I. Ive had a few opportunities to ""Hog"" it all, but chose not to be greedy about it. Not being greedy is a choice I live comfortably with!

I can't seem to find any 22's at Wal-Mart lately. Anybody else having trouble with ammo-can.net?
Thanks,
Tony

Busted….!

You are right. You caught me red-handed. Slap on the cuffs.

Take you tin foil hat off and snap back to reality for a moment. I do visit WalMart on a regular basis. By regular basis, I mean I shop for groceries there once a week. When I'm there, I do check if any ammo has come in. Yes, the same crowd is always there "camped out" waiting in line.

Difference with me is, I don't wait in line with them at all, let alone everyday. Besides, I don't have a tin foil hat so I wouldn't fit in with them anyway.

This is the point I was trying to make in the original post. There's nothing wrong with Ammocan, Walmarts in my area are no longer getting in bulk boxes only 50-100 rnd. Maybe it's different elsewhere.

I have problems getting Ammo-Can to come up at times, like last night, but it's there most of the time.

Walmart decides where to sell guns at based on the area the store is located, if there is already established gun stores in that area, and previous sales of guns in preceding years. Local and state laws.

FWIW: the only walmarts that sell handguns are located in Alaska.

Can't believe this is still going on.

My local WM had 1000 round Win M22 boxes Sunday morning.

I almost went and picked a few more up, but I'm waiting on more 50 cal ammo cans to store it in.

Figured I'd wait until I could properly store it.

Bulk packs come in regularly at our local walmarts...

They go quick but come in regularly

My WalMart has been getting Federal 550 bulk packs along with Winchester M22 1000 rnd 2 box packs routinely. They have a 3 box limit so I buy 3 and have my wife buy 3. The trick is being in the store when they stock the shelves. They also stock a good supply of 380 lately but that goes as fast as the 22 LR. I'm just glad to see WalMart routinely getting ammo that was scarce last year.
