A change in Walmart's 22 ammo?

The day before Thanksgiving I found a single gunshop that had .22 LR ammo. It was CCI Mini-mags in 100 rd. zip-lock bags at $12/100. I passed. The store owner later asked me what I was looking for and I told him .22 LR ammo that was not carrying a scalper price. He got a 500 rd. box of CCI standard velocity out of the back and sold it to me for $29 plus tax. That was the first .22 LR ammo I'd seen in a store for at least 6 months. Before that I found some Fed. Auto-Match in a Walmart. They kindly sold me three boxes which I stretched as long as possible. I have not seen any .22 LR ammo since Thanksgiving.

If by staggered stocking Walmart scalpers and opportunists can be wrong footed... Good. It is a 76 mile round trip to the closest gun shop. Let them have the same fun of driving around and finding nothing. Let some people who simply want .22 LR ammo to shoot and to share w/ their family have at least a chance to find the ammo on the shelf.

If there are those on this board and elsewhere who are not having problems finding ammo, fine. More power to you. But, do not pretend that just because you are able to find and buy ammo that that means everyone else is somehow incompetent or lazy or whatever.

22lr ammo

Bulk ammo is still being made but there is more profit in smaller packages.Demand for 22 rounds is up plus Walmart doesn't receive many boxes in shipments at a time so employees have first crack at them and who knows what Walmart is going to do.

I managed to buy 3 333 packs at my local Wally World about 3 weeks ago. That left one on the shelf. The clerk told me the resellers had already been there, but were not buying as much. Some days they didn't even come in. Cost with tax was a bit under five cents per round.

Our little-bitty gun store currently has in stock 11,eleven, ELEVEN different brands/types of 22LR ammunition.

Get out of Walmart. There's a whole wonderful, big world out there waiting for you to explore.

You all are fortunate. All the Wal-Mart's in my county"Hamilton" will not carry guns nor ammo. I have to drive to Butler county. Plenty 9x19 and 380, but almost never any 22lr. Oh well, if I can't shoot my 10/22, I can use it for putt-putt!

Same in my area. Walmart doesn't sell firearms or ammo

My son is a Manager at my local WalMart. They receive a shipment of Fed 550 bricks almost weekly. They put them out at 8:00 AM and they are gone by 8:15.

My philosophy is that anything "heard from others" is never true.

Does that include your son and other "others" with first hand knowledge or only what other others say others told them?

I can't answer your question. FWIW I haven't seen a box of 22 ammo for sale in a store for over a year.

Then you better find your way out here to El Paso Texas. Lots of 22lr in 50 count boxes at the local Academy. There were about 7 cases out this morning.

Why do the socialist want to redistribute wealth and the cry babies who drank the liberal kool aid ...hate on those who have .22 ammo?

What ever happened to working for what you want instead of demanding your entitlement be delivered to your door? Some of you guys need to read the book "Who moved my cheese"

If you want it bad enough its out there? If your neighbor was willing to get up an hour earlier than you do to find ammo, God bless him for his motivation.

If you to want to complain about pricing.....we are talking about a hobby.... not nutrition, not housing for the elderly on fixed incomes, etc.

ATTENTION ALL WALMART SHOPPERS....DISCOUNT 22 AMMO IS NOT AN ENTITLEMENT.

Before you start crying please ask your grandfather how often he could get a box of .22 during WWII rationing. For the love of my Jack Russell Terrier get a grip.

In 2002 or 2003, I actually got to see the cartoon! As much as I hated the insulting tone, as if it were written for 5th graders, the message came through loud and clear.

None of us were guaranteed a job based on years of service, past performance, or who our Father-In-Law happened to be.

What I took from it was that one can never get complacent because the rug may be pulled out from underneath you at any time.

A disturbing, but thoughtful tale.

There is a clerk at my local WM who tells me what nights ammo comes in. My problem is, it is on a first come, first served basis the next morning (tucks are unloaded overnight), and there is a line in the mornings when it arrives. Problem; I live a good fifty miles from the store, and was working early in the morning, so I didn't get there. I will bet the locals were there each and every day checking, and buying if possible. So us country boys don't get ammo much. The WM clerk tried to help me out but logistics just got in the way. Really stinks, but now I'm retired and have a chance to be in line early in the AM. But how many days do I want to make that drive with gas at it's normally low, low price!!!!:o
And even more important, how early do I want to get out of bed??

I got off my rear end and used my lunch hour to buy ammo instead of sitting on it.

I was taught to work for what I wanted.

Now. Now. There is no reason what so ever to be so reactionary.;) Next thing you are going to say is you expect people to show up to work when scheduled. Sheesh.;)

I discovered early on that it came down to whether I wanted to continue in the hobby. I chose to continue so that meant that I had to stand in line if I wanted any kind of ammo. I have no problem with first come first served. If I don't get out of bed early enough and show up to get the ammo then that is my fault and no one elses. Just me. I'm not going to blame someone else for my own failures. That was not how I was raised.

Here, sleep in. I would start on the last page showing where ammo can be found, which is currently page 161. Most of it is mail order, so you won't even have to leave the house.

You're welcome.

I bought a pallet load of .38s and Winchester asked me if I needed and wanted .22 in LR or Magnum. I said magnum and it is on its way to our wholesale shop as I speak. I can wait for however long it takes to get .22s I will not pay those outrages prices retail shops like Walnuts is charging.
