Nothing very special about these except that we don't see them very often. A Model of 1950 Army which became the Model 22 (S86314). The S&W ad suggests the marketing folks were optimistic about putting new life into the old Model 1917 arguing that it was more accurate than the 1911 Auto. Apparently the market didn't agree as S&W didn't build many. This is the only one I can remember seeing for sale.

The second one is an S serial numbered (S196936) 6.5 inch 4 screw Model 25 (no dash) Model of 1955. We see lots of 25-2s and occasionally a pre 25 but this is the first model numbered one I've had the opportunity to buy. It probably left the factory with diamond target stocks but these smooth targets are pretty nice and a good example of book ended stocks.

Here's mine - 1955 Target .45 no-dash model 25, 6.5" barrel. this is one of the few "S" revolvers I have with non-relieved target stocks. These are great heavy barrel guns.

This example is serial number 208,XXX and shipped in 1960 and is just as pictured in the attached 1961 catalog. The Model 25 designation was given in 1957.

Also, the catalog pages from 1961 and 1957.

I love seeing the old catalog pages and marketing brochures. Thanks

S&W model 1950 Military .45acp:
The only one I have handled was in the era 1980. I worked parttime at a large gun shop and there was a used one in inventory. The revolver had been reblued so many times that the letters and decals were missing. The serial number on the butt was still readable. I kept talking my self out of buying it. About that time my wife became pregnant with #6 child so buying it idea went away.

They look like target stocks to me. The 1950 (pre-26) came with magnas as standard.

I just purchased the 25 pictured below a couple of months ago. It's only a couple of frames older than yours in the same model!

Roy sent that it shipped in May of 1960, yours should be the same or real close.

Here is the immediate predecessor to your Model of 1950 Army. They were still calling it a 1917, 1946-1949. The approximately 1000 guns made, in large part from the ton of parts S&W bought back from the US Army, after the war are sometimes known as the 1917 Army-Transitional. It has the new sliding hammer block and some, like this example, have the butt swivel.

Nice, I have one of those from the end of the run, S210775.
