In December of 1975, having returned from a three year assignment in Germany, I bought a DWM 9mm Luger. However, someone who knew far more about them than I did pointed out that one or more part numbers had been re-stamped. So, took it back to the seller and ended up getting a 6.5 inch S serial number 29-2 instead. Still have that one and have watched for other interesting 44s since.
Had these out today so snapped a picture and thought I'd share.
At the top is a 4 inch 44 Magnum that shipped in November of 1956 making it one of less than 200 4 inch guns shipping that first year.
The second is a four screw 44 Magnum from 1957. Probably not a lot of these either as S&W started stamping as 29s late that year or early in 1958.
In the middle is a 29 no dash from January of 1959 and is the most recent acquisition; thank you Forum member Breadman1!
Next is one of the elusive 29-1s; one of some 40 known to exist and shipped in September of 1962.
And the last is that old 29-2 which has been with me since 1975 and shipped probably some time in 1968 given it has diamond target stocks instead of "cokes."
