A Few Issues

I am having a few issues with my new M&P 15-22. The first is that I get failure to eject on every magazine (usually when the mag is close to being empty). I am using Federal American Eagle. I've searched the forums and can't find an issue.

The second is that the handrail rail dust cap comes off while shooting. It will disconnect from the handrail and slide toward the flash hider.

With the FTE, is the case being extracted from the chamber? Can you post a pic of the bolt+ejector (push the bolt in and take a pic through the bottom of the mag well..). The magazine may need a little breaking in, the ejector may be bent, etc.

With the dust cap, is one or more of the clips broken? I can send you an FDE one that is good to go if it concerns you (the rifle it came from no longer can use it because it's an integral suppressed rifle now).

But ultimately, the cap doesn't do anything....

It is being ejected from the chamber. A few look like the bolt is pinching the case because they are bent when removed. The mostly look like stovepipes. Here is a picture of the bolt and ejector.

The dust cover doesn't look broken. I may just remove it and put a barrel shroud on it.

Clamp the barrel (not the upper) to remove the flash hider..

Stovepipes occur due to a failure to feed, not failure to extract or failure to eject. It may be that parts just need to be broken in a bit..

See if you have issues with mini mags. If you do, its not the ammo.

As for the FTE problem, I say switch ammo and see if your problem goes away.

As for the dustcap flying off - take it off. It does nothing and doesn't need to be on there.

I had a few of those when my rifle was new, went away for me first time I took the bolt carrier/assembly out and CLP'd the rails - just go steady with it and you'll be fine - I haven't had an FTE since.

Still haven't used my second mag but intend to soon so will let you know if it acts up

That cap is harder than heck to come off. You have to basically push in 4 tabs at the same time, or at least get a couple unhooked before moving to the other two. Almost sounds like someone took it off & didn't install it properly.

Curious, has anyone taken the flash hider off or maybe taken off or messed with the barrel nut?

Nothing has been done to the flash hider or the barrel nut. I've had the gun maybe two weeks and it has done it both times I've taken it to the range. I took a closer look at the cap and the snaps weren't connected to the handrail. I snapped them back in and all looks good now.

Mine was kind of picky about ammo at first too. I had 2 or 3 failures per mag shooting Winchesters. I switched brands and everything was fine. Most guns, regardless of manufacture or caliber, have a recommended break in period of 300 to 500 round. It runs anything I feed it now.

Like Andishdi said, breaking it down and cleaning it is prob a good idea too.

Hope this helps
