A guess on nickel M-39s

This will be interesting to find out. About 12 years ago I bought a nickel 39-2 with box, papers, and a list of former owners from 1980 onward and was curious how many were made. I picked up a gun the other day at my favorite gun store and the owner had two apparently NIB nickel 39-2s priced at $1200 each. A big increase since the days I got mine. I'm assuming by the boxes which are like mine that they were -2s. I put Grashorn elk bone grips on mine.

Mr. Burp, nice gun and the grips set it off. Like to see that no one
filed the front sight down.
Asking price of $1200 and realized sell price are oceans apart.
That is so true, but I’m in California where every classic gun costs more. I’ll watch if they sell.
I’m 99% a revolver guy but had a vision and desire for a nickel Model 39 (or -2) with gnarly sambar stags though I never seen such a combination. But then I got those elk bone grips from Patrick Grashorn and love them.

I didnt count, got the number from the Guru in the cave atop of the mountain. 1954-1982 inclusive.

I have 350 nickel Model 39's in my database and don't have any numbers for 39-2's.This is a far cry from a possible 35,000. Here's one on the earlier ones from my collection serial number 6515.

O.K., here is my Nickel 39-2, so you can start that database.

As you can see on the close-up, there is no blemish on the serial number. That first picture is just bad photography on my part :-(

I received Dad's 39-2 after he passed some years ago. I sure do miss him and appreciate his great taste in hardware. The slide and frame discoloration is just shadowing from the box I found for it (less than 500 digits off the gun's serial number, doubt I'll find one closer).
No idea how many were made but glad I have one of them. Smooth as silk and my only nickel finished gun.

Todd
