A little help please

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but carried firearms most of my adult life, recently I traded into a S&W 686 CS-1. it is I guess you could call it a shooter grade. No box or docs. But I recently found out some basic info on it. Maybe someone on here could help me with more info? TIA

Mr.Big welcome to the forum and nice pick up on that 686 CS-1. What info are you looking for on it? There also is a search forum feature on here where you can type in CS-1 and find several posts with all the info you probably are looking for.

Just curious about some of the markings, what is this “M” stamp about?

the M on under the grip is not the M people are referring to concerning early 686 models... the M or 2M referenced is on the frame, under the yoke adjacent to the model designation.
Those M or 2M refer to a factory modification done to mitigate potential issues that have been debated here as to whether or not it was necessary... yours does not have this stamp. a search will reveal more information than you thought was possible on these wonderful firearms... enjoy the quest.

My SCSW book indicates the "AYE" prefixed serial numbers as being produced in 1987 and 1988. The subject Post_1's CS-1 appears to be a fine revolver. Anybody should be proud/glad to own one like this.

Thank you all so kindly, I traded a Franken AR for this revolver, I’d like to think I did ok on this trade, as far as the revolver goes. It has a very nice distinctive double action that is only one can dream of, back in my younger firearm qualifying days this would have been easy to qualify top gun with, single action is the best there is.
