I don’t remember having tried a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, but I can imagine what it is. My wife is from Buffalo and she tells me that the premier sandwich specialty there is called Beef on Kimmelweck. The latter is sort of a hard roll with salt crystals on top. I have never tried one of those either.

I've had a lot of Philly Cheese steaks. Best I ever had came from a little mom and Pop place Called Ethel's Sub Shop in a little town on the Eastern Shore of Md called Church Hill. I was talking to my Eye surgeon not long ago. He can't help being a Yankee. He lives near Billings now. Told him one of the things I miss most is a GOOD Corned Beef on Jewish Rye with onions and a side of Cole Slaw...and he finished what I was saying Cole Slaw with Russian Dressing. He was from Brooklyn in NYC. Think we got sandwiches from the same deli. Then yesterday my sister email/texted me from of all places, NYC. Told her to get one of those CBs on Rye. 2 hours later she sent me a pic of..yep that same sammich. Looked good she said the sandwich was great...cole slaw mediocre. She also said it cost $35 with a bottle of Ginger Ale(oh blic). I'm not even a fan of beer...but I'd have had to have a COLD bottle of Lowenbrau or some such. The price WAS ridiculous. BUT she was staying at the Ritz hotel. Said she met the el presidente of Nigeria. I told her to watch out for Nigerian Prince types

Well I am visiting my cousin in the Pittsburgh area and we are off to primoverias tonight he says I’m going to try a sandwich very well known out there. I will report back when I can. We did go to a great German brow house last night and some great schnitzel and some nice homemade Weiss beer. Hopefully the primo sandwich will not disappoint I think it has fries on it? Think it’s primoverra

Philly Schmilly a cheese steak is a cheese steak, for me the simpler the better.
Co worker's family has a shop on Dixie Hwy where they use brisket, extraordinary.
Sonny's around the corner from me is famous, overrated but still fine.
No need for slaw and fries to cover up substandard fare.

Never been to Philly, but around here Jersey Mike's makes a mean chipotle cheese steak. Yes, I know it's a national chain, but that's one of my favorite subs.

I had a really good one before the football game Friday in Townsend Montana. The Full Belly Deli had a roll about 3/4" tall and the sandwich was 2 1/2" tall. Full of local beef, cooked slow and sliced on site as was the cheese. It had a good amount of peppers and mushrooms. Cost was less than a dollar an inch.

The beef sticks were awesome also.

Making a Philly cheesesteak is like tossing a hand grenade. If you get close enough it works.

My wife and I go to a Italian restaurant/pizza shop called Mama Lukes in Farmington ,Ct. for there Philly cheese steak grinders. It is 14"long and overstuffed with sliced steak ,mushrooms ,peppers , onion and american cheese.
We always order 2 and take one home.
They run about $28.00 for two and so far are the best we have tried here in Ct.

Best "Philly" cheese steak sandwich I ever had was at the Harley-Davidson Headquarters employee cafeteria in Milwaukee back in 1984.

I was there for a seminar.

Rare roast beef with Philadelphia Cream Cheese on a sub roll.
