So I went to the Birch Run Gun Show, today, here in Michigan. I had no plans on going, but my Dad wanted to go and coaxed me into joining him. I've been buying a lot of guns lately and was almost hoping I wouldn't find anything interesting, so that I wouldn't have to spend any more money... almost. I even told myself that I'm not buying anything, unless I see a rare S&W revolver at a good price.
Well wouldn't you know it, after making my way through 3/4's of the tables, what do I see, but this 629-5 Mountain Gun, with a price tag of $699. I knew that was a good price (especially since I could see the original box sitting next to the gun). Still, I tried to play hardball, asking the seller if he would let me have it for that price, out-the-door (no tax). He explained that he was an employee of the owner and that the owner didn't usually haggle when it came to S&W's. He then went on to tell me that he wanted to buy the gun himself, if it didn't sell at the show. I thanked him for his time and walked away.
As I was walking through the last 1/4 of tables in the building, I could not get my mind off of the Mountain Gun. I told myself that if it is still there, after I make my way through the final tables, it was meant to be and I would buy it. Picture a guy speed-walking through a gun show and that's about what I must have looked like.
It was there when I got back (about 5 minutes later) so here's some pictures of my first Mountain Gun. From what I know, the 629-5 MG was only made in 1999. Does anyone know how many of these were made? Take care and happy hunting.
