Okay, one of my pet peeves has always been handicapped parking abuse....but today I encountered another low...a woman with a fake service dog vest on her Pekinese so she can bring it into restaurants with her. I asked her what kind of service her dog performs since she didn't seem handicapped and she just flat out told me it was a fake vest...unreal.

I saw a guy go into a restaurant with a small dog, and when questioned by the doorman, he said it was a seeing eye dog.

The doorman said that he had never heard of a Chiuhaua being used as a seeing eye dog.

The man shouted "They gave me a $#&@ing chiuhaua!!!?"

Good one guys...the only place you should be all0wed to park in a handicapped space without a placard is any Laughlin Casino since they all have 100 handicapped spots for every regular one.

What REALLY fries my do-dads is when some big buck borrows grandma's tag ahd hangs it in the jacked up 4wd pickup that's parked n the handicap zone. I keep telling the cops-deputize me and give me a ticket book (the tickets are $500) and I'll make the city rich.

Couldn't resist telling that ol' joke Sip. :)

I do agree with you on the low lifes that try to use handicapped tickets on the rearview mirror, dogs, whatever, to take advantage of stuff. When I see someone who has obviously taken grandma's car (or just the handicap tag) to the store, park in the handicapped spot, and jump out of the car, I always stare at them, then look at the handicap placard on the wall in front of their vehicle and then look back at them. Guess what? They always look the other way, leave the car right there, and enter the store. Some folks will never get it.

Not being LE, that's all I can do. It does burn me up though!

Having a handicapped child(Spina Bifida) that is my number 1 pet peeve, to see someone without a placecard or state issused tag park in a H/C spot.

Neither my wife or myself would ever think about parking in these spots unless our daughter is with us.

And if it irks you because someone parks in an non-handicapped spot and they have a tag just get over it, they may have parked there because some IDIOT w/o a tag parked in a H/C spot.

People with Handicaps get enough of people staring, pointing and making fun of them.

I have a problem with people using handicapped sites when they can walk fine. My wife is handicapped but I park in the closest open spot available so those that need the handicapped site more can have it.

But as stated, there are those that get a handicapped plate or placard for a monster truck. if they can climb in one, they do not need the dsignation.

My real complaint about such spots though is the amount of them. Likely set by the local codes, as it is here, but there will be 50 handicapped slots in a WalMart parking lot with all of them seldom used. And what constitutes handicapped. My brother in law has a sticker and he only had a knee replaced two yrs ago. He walks fine.

I have almost come to blows for this,

a few years back on Thanksgiving day no-less went to a local Winn-Dixie, the lot was empty but this guy just parks in a H/C spot(to save his legs from over use).

Well my being an A personality type (just ask my wife:eek:) i had to say something, after a few minutes of mouth sparring i had to walk away before i punched this moron, as i was going into the store the Manager came out and told this guy if he didn't move his car they didn't need his business.

i have a handicapped plate not mirror device. i have been known to park behind those parked illegally in a handicapped place and go about my business. the offenders are usually haveing a fit by the time i get back.

A while back I noticed an Lincoln Navigator parked in a handicap slot at Costo. It didn't have a handicap tag, but it did have a "26.2" decal that marathon runners use.

I mentioned this to the employee at the door who checks your membership card - she said that they are not allowed to say anything to the offenders.

Really irks me when I see a handicapped sticker hanging from a mirror and they've parked in one of my (non-handicapped) spots!

I was on a lunch break from work going to a fast food joint. Behind a car with hcp plate. All hcp spaces were vacant, he passed them all and parked in the only empty regular space.

Maybe the driver wasn't handicapped, and didn't want to park in a HC space unless the handicapped person was with him. It is against the law in Texas to park in a HC designated space unless the handicapped person(s) are in the vehicle.

My biggest peeve? People who leave their shopping baskets right in the big middle of a HC space, like it was a cart return area. If my wife is by herself (which is very seldom) she has to stop, get out of the car, move the cart, get back in, park, and get out again...all of which is very painful for her. I don't know if it is deliberate or unconscious hostility, but if those people who do that had to contend with what my wife does, they might not be so thoughtless. (My wife broke her neck in an accident in 2003, and it is difficult and painful for her to walk.)

As for the number of spaces designated for HC, most cities have regulations on how many HC spaces there must be per total parking spaces. What I find strange is that in some large parking lots, they put some at the very back of the lot...the farthest away from the store. I've never understood the logic of that.

Maybe it was his wifes car and he wasn't the HC'ed one?Wouldn't that make him OK?Is it that no one else can drive that car?Could it be that he is a care taker for an elderly who's not in the car at the moment?
Lots of ?????'s
Is my brother wrong when he's feeling OK and decides to walk with the "regular folks".Then uses his plate to gain access to better parking for my aging parents that need a plate more than most and there's no time to get one.

That's great! I may have to try that. I just got home from the laundromat, and the sole HC parking space was taken by a lazy person......as usual.

Same thing with the dog vest, don't always assume you know the story. The original post was about a stupid fool laughing about her abuse of the system.

Handicapped Parking - Please Think First, Friends

Please don't be too quick to judge. Not everyone has a physical handicap that you can see. Many people have what are called "Invisible Handicaps", such as a bad heart or bad lungs. Not just anyone can get the plates or hang tag. You MUST have a medically necessary reason! My 19 year old daughter has handicapped license plates on her car due to her extreme asthma. The doctor doesn't want her to walk too much because it can cause a massive asthma attack. The looks and comments she gets from people who should know better (so-called adults) are insensitive and very hurtful. She has been reduced to tears on more than one occasion, which also is not good for her health.
My beef is with people who park halfway into the handicapped space, right up against the driver's door. Several times I have had to go back into the store to ask an employee to back my car out for me so that I could get into it to leave. I have a bad right leg that doesn't bend and have to open the door all of the way and still fight to get in. -Ed.

An ice pick for his tires would be more fun and more expensive for him though!

+1 on that. When my late Father was suffering from lung cancer that had metastisized to his brain was walking into the hospital for one of his treatments a guy had a problem with how slow he was walking. It took every ounce of energy not to bounce this clown accross the floor. People can be so damned ignorant.
Remember no matter how bad your day is someone else's may be way worse. Use manners and common courtesy!
