A new Pre-29, once owned by W. A. Orick

The dude was hard core military. I have no doubt this is him.

This is way too cool. Thank you so much for finding this, I'm clearly going to have to get better at actually doing such research if I keep buying such guns.

Digging up a bit of an old thread here with an...update? I grabbed a copy of an old magazine from the war. This W.A. Orick guy was pretty cool as it turns out, featured as he was in this article:

If you would like to read it, not by blowing up the pictures I took of the magazine, you can find it in text here: A War to be Won

The site which led me to this particular article.

It's a heck of a lot of fun to start to put together the ephemera that belongs with a gun, with that gun. I should probably poke around and see if I can't get a picture of Orick himself.

This is great! I bought a nice leather attache case in a second hand store and managed to learn a bit about the previous owner (deceased by then). Your gun and the research behind the owner, is 1,000 times more cool!

$1045 for a Beautiful Pre-29 with Cokes...You should be ashamed of yourself!

To ease your pain and guilt, I'll give you you're money back, I might even be persuaded to pay shipping...

My photography skills do not do this gun justice. I was expecting both a model 29 (not pre) and a gun in far rougher shape for the $1,045 asking price. The pictures of it were terrible, and it was labeled a Nickel 28-2, but I figured the stocks looked nice and I wouldn't be a war criminal from separating some nice cokes from a 28-2.

Looks like you got a fantastic gun for an awesome price to me. I can understand the dealer not knowing a pre-model 29 from a model 29 or 28-2, but where did Nickel come from? The pictures might look like Nickel, but didn't the dealer look at it in person?

The dealer had taken pictures of a few guns, and posted the auction for a nickel 28-2, but accidentally used the pictures for this pre-model 29.

When I saw the auction I immediately recognized what it was, called the dealer, and arranged for a direct sale of this gun before he put it on gunbroker, and then he fixed the photos on the auction to the correct ones of the 28-2.
