I was in the market for a new siphon since the one I had (a boat type pump siphon) was a royal pain in the butt! It always leaked and got gasoline on the garage floor and was limited to a slow siphon action.
I went on the net and discovered something called the "Super Siphon OR the Safety Siphon and liked that it is actually made in the USA so I ordered one. It came a few days ago and cost me $8.99 + postage. When I saw it I didn't believe it would work as well as they show on the youtube videos or touted in their advertisements but today I used it for the first time.
WOW!!! The damned thing emptied my 5 gallon gas can into my wife's gas tank in less than 2 minutes and not one drop was spilled. To start the siphoning action all you do is insert one end into the gas tank and the other into the bottom of your gas container (at a higher position to siphon of course) and shake it half a dozen times. Before I knew it gasoline was flowing freely and rapidly while the glass bead in the siphon made a rattling sound (normal). I am so pleased with this cheap and efficient devise I figured I post it here. It sure as heck beats holding a 40 pound gas container in the air and trying to fill your tank without spilling gasoline on yourself and the garage floor!
The one I bought has a 3/4" O.D.plastic hose with a 1/2" I.D.and came in a 6 foot length. This morning I went to Home Depot and bought a 10 ft. plastic hose ($6 bucks) because I found the 6 footer it came with to be a little tight to work with. Some of them actually come with an optional 10 ft. hose for a little extra but that is easily remedied so it's no big deal.
I am always in Hardware stores and tool stores but this simple and cheap devise had eluded me until last week. Anybody in need of a siphon would be well served with one of these! By the way, cleaning them out is a snap! just hold it vertical for 15 seconds and anything in the tube flows out - unlike the pump type that always retain some amount of whatever it is you are transferring.
I only wish I had invented it!
