A Nice 439

I went to the store this morning to get a BB gun for the Grandson. I looked in the gun case and there was this old Smith buried under some other guns. The clerk showed it to me and it looks almost brand new. The blueing is as nice as what’s on some of my High Powers. It’s got the Pachs on it so I might look for some wood grips. It also has the single decocker. I think $360 was a great deal for a gun in this shape.

That one has the fully adjustable rear sight and looks to be in very good condition. It also has the round trigger guard and single side safety, two things I like and makes holster fitment easier. I think you did just fine for $360, but you gotta get rid of those Goodyears and put on some S&W 39/x39 wood stocks. S&W wood stocks turn up on eBay and GunBroker with some degree of regularity.

I love those. I actually like the Pacs. Mine came with them. Mine has a bare frame. Not sure if it was stripped, or a special order. I prefer the adj sights and round guard on mine.

I think you did very well at $360.00 for that 439. I had some 2nd. Gen guns, and wish I'd at least hung onto a 539 and 639 I bought new back in the day. I'd replace those rubber grips though. I went through my rubber-grips-on-semi-auto-pistols phase about 35 years ago. Still have a couple sets on revolvers because they came that way, but none on semi-auto pistols...
