Yesterday, I received my two latest purchases. The first is a 1980 vintage 29-2. It came with the blue box, presentation box, papers, and tools. It was only missing the mop. It appears to be test fired only.

The second is a 24-3. It came with the original blue box, all paperwork, and un-opened tools. It also appears to be test fired only.

Both guns are really nice, but the 24-3 was probably the better find. I understand there about 2,625 of them made in a 4" barrel. I got a pretty good deal on it, I think.

Is the 29-2 a 6" or a 6.5"? It ought to be a 6" in 1980, I believe, but it looks like a 6.5".

It's a 6" barrel, but I do have a 29-2 with a 6 1/2" barrel. 1973 vintage. It came with a presentation box and tools. I found a 1973 +/- vintage instruction manual on eBay that I bought for $24. Under the parts list, it says that parts prices are effective as of March 12, 1973, so it could have been for a slightly newer gun?

Thank you for the comments.

I have kinda avoided nickle guns, but this 29 sure is purty. The 24 is cool for what it is. Fugate has a NIB M24 with a Buy It Now price of $1,400. I paid a little more than 1/2 of that. :)

Gorgeous guns. The prettiest handgun I've ever seen was a nickle plated 29 in a presentation box much like yours. I wish I could've afforded to buy it back in the '80s when I saw it.

I love stainless for it's practicality and also know my local weather (65 - 140" of rain annually) and how I use and abuse guns... (I treat them as tools, they get worn). But someday... I might just buy a nickle Smith .44 ... you know, because.

That blue one just looks dangerous. Very dangerous.

Gorgeous guns, you are fortunate.

I like nickel on many S&W revolvers and only on a few Colts.

And I like blue and stainless too!

Thank you.

My quest for a model 27 lead to the purchase of six other S&W's (I know there are a lot of 27's on the market, I just couldn't find the right deal). I just purchased a pre-27 this evening, so my gun buying is gonna slow down a lot.

NOoooooooooooo! Never slow down in you S&W buying!!!!!!
That will bring on serious withdrawl symtoms. REAL SERIOUS!! LOL

:) John;)

I missed this thread the first time around, so I'm glad it came back up. Nice guns both, but the .44 Special is -- well, I guess it's kind of special.

Belated congratulations on a fine double score.
