A point in life

Just some reflections. I have made a couple of gun purchases in the past year, but more sales than purchases, so a net reduction. I expect that to be the trend going forward. I have reached a point where I: would rather shoot what I have than buy something new; would rather not add a new caliber or develop a new load; cannot think of anything I have "always wanted" that I haven't already owned - at least once; can't remember the last time I saw a new gun introduced and said "I want one"; no longer get much satisfaction in the repair and maintenance functions of the hobby - only my carry guns are cleaned immediately after a range session.

Oddly, I now shoot more .22LR and .38 Special than anything else. While I have a lifetime (at this stage) supply of .22s I am loading just enough .38s to cover one or two range sessions. I see a marathon loading session in the offing. 1,000 rounds should see me through next year. On the other hand I will definitely leave some lucky person plenty of factory 12, 16 and 20 gauge shells along with .45 ACP, .280, .35 Whelen and .45-70. The .38s. 9mm, .44 Special and .45 Colt will be empty brass or a few reloads. I recently bought a brick of small pistol primers and will pick up another when I find it under $60. That should last me. Powder and lead are on hand and I can't give away my excess brass.

Not complaining. I like where I've arrived. I fired my first shot when JFK was in office and loaded my first round during the Nixon administration. I carried a gun for a living and was issued 100 rounds per month; now I carry one to stay alive and have enough SD ammo to see me and the Mrs. for the foreseeable future. Revolvers then and now. My current plan is to shoot through my accumulation of ammo in a given caliber and then sell the gun(s) in that caliber until I am down to a couple .38s, a shotgun or two and some .30-30s and .22s with sentimental meaning.

Life is good.

Buford,

Never cut out the future in that a new
firearm might catch your eye. It
can be nice what is but a bit of future
also can be pleasant.

It is all about the ride for me, and I've enjoyed it and continue to enjoy it. All the paths that went right. All the treasures for a few hundred bucks. Shooting the ten out of a target with first shot while someone watched. My friend who taught me to shoot the circle in the d in "Budweiser", while I was happy just shooting cans. It feels so good to be good at something, while not caring if not the best.

Told myself no more guns, and find myself buying grips and such. Never had a 92FS and wanted one a long time, but a 547 or 24 will show up, or maybe a K22 or K38.

Sounds as if I need to get shooting.

About 8 or 9 years ago I sold off 41 firearms and have bought 7 to 9 since then. I need to stir the pot a little more.

The GUN that keeps whispering my name is a 50 BMG Berrett! That is a big hunk of money. My wife has observed that the cost of the gun is normally 1/3 the total set up costs, that one may go 2/3 but it's still a whole new caliber, new design of a new press, new size primers, new size Case Prep and on and on! So, it still easy to resist...for now!

I walk into almost any gun store only to find nothing but black plastic guns. I'm hoping to find a case in a dark corner with Blue Steel & Black Walnut in it.
Last BS/BW find was a guy trading in an old 38 for a Walther piece of plastic (I think is was a PPQ) They offered the revolver to me when the guy walked out! I paid $307 OTD for a 6" Model 10-7 No accessories, but upon later examination: hardly if fired. With a non +P 146gr SWC reload. I did some of my best ever handgun shooting. I sold my brother my 4" 64 no dash, with a $200+ surplus to fund other projects but haven't found any! I am stuck at only 17 S&W's and feel stymied. I guess my early 80's memories of in the box Nickel Model 10's for $80 will haunt me for the rest of my life!

Just to keep the juices flowing, I had a custom shoulder holster made for my 38 Safety Hammerless first model. It needs to get out of the house and see more of the inside of church!

While I succumbed to the lure of the AR-15, I still pretty much have myself surrounded by blue steel. I now have become more keenly aware that I haven't fired a round out of a number of guns since their purchase or my inheriting them. Rather than leave a stockpile of ammunition behind, I have endeavored to bring out a different gun that I haven't fired yet in addition to my usual practice gun to just enjoy the ambiance and history of some of these classic guns.

And never say you'll never buy another gun. I was thinking that when my latest acquisition, the Model 41 S&W with the muzzle brake and set up for optical sights came up on the auction site.

Not me, whoever has the biggest collection at death wins. lol
My boys can do whatever they want with them after that.
