A Project 1917 I Wouldn't Even Touch

I watched that auction, out of morbid curiosity more than anything. There were two other 1917 listed at the same time that didn't bring much more. A Canadian that someone had swapped the 455 cylinder for a US 1917 cylinder and a US marked 1917 with ground serial number. The Canadian closed for not much over $300 and probably made someone a good shooter. I don't think the US version brought much more but the ground serial number is a big strike. Maybe 1917 prices are getting soft as tastes change.

Play-Skool 'See 'n Weld' project I think. Perhaps a first attempt?
Even Hamilton Bowen had to start somewhere..

As bad as it is it was salvageable,, until I saw that job on the ser#, then forget it. Hands off..
But even at that, the price it brought is surprising for a cylinder.

Why would anyone shell out that money? Seriously - I'm asking.
Barely enough kindling in those grips to start a good fire.

I watched that one too. I think it could make a fun range toy - well, if it had an s/n! But you guys hating on Fitzes need to remember the historical significance and the famous pistolero's who liked them.
