a question about resizing

i have some 5.56 match ammo that was given to me that i cant use,bullets are to heavy and long(80 gn 5.56 sierra matchking) and was wondering if you need to resize the neck after pulling the bullets?

I think you should always fully size rifle brass if it has not been shot in your rifle. If you are reloading brass that was last shot in your rifle, you can usually get by with just neck sizing. Either way, you should always size something.

Depending on just how much was given to you, it may make more sense to sell it and buy something with a lighter bullet.

well i got about 1300 rnds,and its all marked "FOR AMU CHAMBER ONLY",so nobody will touch it,guy i got it from had it for sale for 2 years before he gave it to me,anyway question was answered so thanks a lot guys

I would consider the purchase of a barreled upper if I had that much ammo.

If it is brand new factory ammo and you are just pulling the bullets and dumping the powder then yes, you can get by with neck sizing (and need to) and charging with your powder and seat a different bullet.

Sounds like work. I would also try to just sell it.

The throat in an AMU chamber is actually shorter than a NATO chambered rifle. AMU chamber is reamed so an 80 grain SMK just kisses the lands when seated to 2.500".

You can single load that all day long. It's loaded for the 600 yard prone slow fire stage.

And you need a fast twist to stabilize them.
If you reload the brass for use in a gas gun do not neck size. If you are unable to measure shoulder bump accurately, full length resizing is your best bet.

Thanks for pointing that out. The vast majority of AR's out there are 1-9 while you need a minimum of 1-7 to stabilize the 80 grain Sierra. Some competitors even rebarrel 1-6 or 1-6.5 just to be sure.
