A Question For Vintage S&W Handcuff Collectors

Handcuff collectors-- I hope you can help me. I have a vintage set ( most likely Bangor Punta era ) of as new in the S&W blue cardboard box handcuffs with key. They are model 90, blued steel. I intend to list them for sale on the forum but I don't know how much or how little to ask for them. Any ideas as to value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

A pair of Handcuffs original to the blue box is most likely a Model 90. The model number typically appears on one end of the box. If it is a Model 925 or 926 or a Model 94 it is worth more than the standard Model 90 or 91. The 91 is a Model 90 that is highly polished. The 925 and 926 are made of aluminum and the Model 94 uses a very large round key that is different from standard handcuff keys.

The aluminum 925 and 926 and Model 94s often sell for over $100. As with guns, condition makes a big difference on value. Also, values tend to go down if they have non-factory markings such as officer's names or police department markings.

It will depend on what model you have. These are the models of the vintage 1952 to 1979:
Model 90 - Nickel or Blue, standard model steel cuffs
Model 91 - Bright Polished Nickel or Blue
Model 925 - Lightweight Aluminum
Model 926 - Lightweight Polished Aluminum
Model 936 - Stainless Steel Polished Bright
Model 938 - Stainless Steel Standard Finish
Model 800 & 810 - Belly Chains
Model 820 & 830 - Lead Chains
Model 94 - Maximum Security
Model 95 - Military Issued

Clear photos of both sides showing all markings, a must to reach maximum value.

Thanks fellas I have learned a lot. You guys are assets to the forum and your valuable information really helps. I will take photos and post them. I looked more closely to the box. What I have is Model 90 , cuffs are blued steel, not nickel as I thought.

Rick,
You have a nice example of the Model 90, later production, with the detent being under the keyway. I have the late production M-90's with serial numbers from 117922 to 981129.
Yours also has the early "lazy" ampersand noted on all the early production models. Out of the 15-20 late M-90's I quickly looked at in my collection, only 2 examples have the "lazy" ampersand. I'm not saying it is rare, but not seen as often as the later "standard" (&) ampersand.
