A quick and simple question...

What’s a fair price for a no-dash 6” 586 in what I’d call a solid very good condition, gun only no box, paperwork, or accessories. I’ve wanted one of these for a long time, and have found one, I’m just not sure that the asking price of $900 is fair.

I know it’s hard to evaluate pricing without pictures, and I know this question has come up in the past, however I’m looking for a ballpark range here based on the average selling prices you all have seen this year.

As always, the online gun auctions (GBroker being the most common) can be searched for what any model is actually selling for. I'd start there.
That said, from my moderate collecting experience, I'd be thinking $650 would be more in line with what you described. $900 would more than likely be supporting the sellers obvious drug habit.

In "solid good condition"? They do show up in Pa.(even at Cabelas) from time to time, ranging from $550-650. Can't imagine where someone pulled $900 from, especially for a 6" version.

I would expect to pay around $550 and surely would not pay more than $650 for it. For $900 you can get the new model 686 which in my opinion is a better gun.

But, I always liked my 586.

Depending on your definition of “very good” (95%?), perhaps a $550 gun as noted above. $900 is highly optimistic .

It’s funny you mention Cabelas because that’s where this one is. Their pricing is all over the board typically, however I don’t remember seeing another no-dash 586 for sale anywhere other than Gun Broker, its hard to tell whether it’s a good price or not. The consensus here seems to be that it is a bit too high, so I’ll have to wait 3 or four years for the price to come down, as they’ve finally done with a LNIB Model 34, a well loved 17-3, and a Colt Trooper MK III in 22, all of which I want, all of which were sitting over priced in the case for over 4 years and have finally dropped below the four figure price point.

I wish they were more willing to negotiate, they’d move more product, and have less money tied up in overpriced guns they can’t sell...

I suggest you post a want to buy add on this forum. $900 seems a little out of bounds to me.

If that piece was in stunning condition with box, papers, etc., it just might approach the $900.00 mark..... maybe..... with a motivated buyer.
As described, I would think $500. Hard to say without pictures, so that is just a guess. Could be a bit on the high end....

I can't think of any L-frame, stainless or blued, in any dash number selling for $900 aside from new PC guns.

$900 is in the range of what many of the later P&R N-frames sell for in very good to excellent condition.

Take a look here in the classifieds at what $900 will fetch you. I wouldn't even consider paying $900 for a 586 under any circumstances unless I was independently wealthy.

I picked this up at a recent gun show; I know, it's not a 586, and it's not a no dash. It is in fact, a 686-3, but I got it for $700 without box or papers. It happened to be just what I was looking for.

FWIW I sold an excellent condition 6 inch 586-3 with box and papers, here on the forum within the last 12 months, for somewhere around $625, give or take.

I had it listed closer to $700 but no takers.

Sounds like the price is high. But -- if it's something you really want and looked for a long time...

After searching two years I bought a 1947 Colt 1911 for a fair price. But, if I had overpaid a few hundred, I would not have regretted it.

The interest in these guns seems to be increasing. I recently paid 775 shipped for a very good condition 686-4 8 3/8. I have bought others in the 550 - 700 range. Bottom line is when you see one in the 550 or 650 range you will need to move quickly because they seem to move quickly. 900 is out there and you can easily find one in great shape with box etc for that amount. Posting in the WTB is a good idea. I wanted a Nickle 586, posted in the WTB and a member sold me one ANIB all paperwork for 725 shipped. Good luck to you.
