How Victorinox knives are made, from raw steel and other materials, to market.

I watched this with one of their knives in my pocket, one on my desk, one in a bookcase behind me, and one in the briefcase by the desk. And three others in this particular room. Others in different rooms, including some kitchen knives.

The video just touches briefly on watches and clothing sold by the firm.

This is now the sole true brand of Swiss Army knife, and they are perhaps THE iconic product of Switzerland. Yes, the Swiss also make good watches, cheese, and chocolate. And I like those products, too. But I thought you'd most enjoy a Swiss Army knife video. (But I must confess, I ate a Lindt und Sprungli chocolate bar while typing this.)

Do you have a favorite or most carried SAK? I suppose that for me, it's the Spartan. I have examples with both red and black handles.

I once tried several models to see which was the thickest I could carry comfortably in a trousers pocket. The Camper won, but the Spartan is a bit trimmer, so unless I may need the saw, I usually carry the Spartan. The Hunter is too big and heavy for a pants pocket, so goes in a coat pocket or in a belt pouch.

Carried a SAK of one model or another since the early 70's. These days it's an, (discontinued), Evo 11.

I have one of the small Classics on each of my key chains, and a Swiss Card in my wallet, so I guess they're the most carried. My favorite is a single blade.

T-S, I have a small Swiss Army knife in my pocket everyday, on a ring with a 32G thumb drive, which has all of my school stuff stored on. Very handy, but I just checked, and it is a Wenger.

As a couple of you guys will have noticed, wearing a knife on a key ring, or carrying one in a pocket with change, etc. ruins the finish. The handles get really scratched up.

For that reason, I never carry anything in my knife pocket but a handkerchief.

2018 will be the last year for my current Executive. In January, it will go into retirement and a new one will go into service. In particular, the orange peeler/pipe cleaner/screwdriver blade is pretty worn, the handles (scales?) are not too spiffy any more, and both blades are a little misshaped by my amateurish sharpening. At my age, there is no sense preserving my supply. (I can buy more.) What the heck! Time to reward myself and drag out a new one with the new year.

I also was a non-store front discount retailer of the Victorinox products back in the 1980s. I sold them from my desk at American Express. The year that the Classic was introduced in PINK I sold over 2,000 Victorinox knives as Christmas gifts, we had 5000+ employees in the buildings (over 75% female). Man did they love that little pink knife with the scissors And most of the women would buy a second knife for their spouse at the same time.

For a short time the Victorinox Executive knives were offered with Granite scales. I carried those frequently in the olden days. Mother of pearl was also a scale option for several models way back when.

These days I do keep one in my range bag and one in my grab bag, but in my pocket I usually carry a large single bladed folder of my own design

Yes, women like them, especially in feminine colors. I have a Net friend in Chicago, a nurse. She is aware that I like knives and wrote about them and asked about a small knife for her purse. A pink Classic was her choice.

It fills her needs and is easily within Chicago's legal limits.

I agree that women usually find the scissors their most-used tool on pocketknives. Many like the nail file, too.

Also a big SAK fan and long-time carrier. Wife is an RN at a hospital. Works with lots of other women. A couple years ago I got her an Evolution that has scissors and bright yellow grips. Was really surprised how many women she works with were fawning over that knife.

These days my hands are so messed up I have trouble opening a pocketknife blade with a thumb nick, so I carry a one-hand opener. But I still have a Vic Pioneer, the model that used to be actually issued to Swiss soldiers. I've given one to each of my grandsons and to my son and my sister.

They're a great value for the money.

The "US flag thingee" is in fact leather, not chocolate. The thingee is a piece of embossed leather attached to a handmade leather sleeve that carries my iPad. Made-to-order affair, whipped up by an old friend. I couldn't find anything on the market that suited my needs so he generously came to my rescue. (I would have preferred tan leather but he used black because it was what he had. )

No, Vic. bought Wenger some years ago, when the president of Wenger told Carl Elsener IV at Vic. that he was having to sell Wenger and asked if Vic. would buy it to prevent Wenger from falling into foreign hands.

Elsener agreed and so, Victorinox is the sole true maker of Swiss Army knives.

This was announced in knife magazines at the time.

I am 65 and have carried a SAK for as long as I can remember. I also carry a Spyderco knife of one type or another. I like the steels and design features of the Spyderco knives but really don't understand how any male gets along without a SAK. Beer bottles to open, beard hair to trim, screws to tighten, small limbs to saw, the applications are endless.

I have thought about going to a Case instead of one of these two because of how beautiful I find a Case pocket knife. Then functionality gets considered and the old standbys stay in the pocket.
