A ROCK ?

But, if it makes just one person all giddy and able to forget the crisis their state is in, it is worth it. ;)

Why look, it worked;

Some people crowded around the big rock and posed for snapshots.
Others, including M.M. Green, 34, laid the palms of their hands on its protective shrink wrap. The chance to touch the rock brought smiles to the faces of everyone, except Green.
“I came a long way to touch this thing, and it felt very impersonal –- I expected more intimacy from this rock,” said Green, a video artist.
He dug into his pocket for his keys, took the largest one and reached underneath the rock and ripped a hole in the shrink wrap. Then he poked his fingers through the hole and beamed.
“I felt the rock with my fingers, and it was very gritty,” he said. “I’m having chills, if that means anything.”

I, for one, would have loved to see the 174 wheeled transporter. That had to be impressive. The rock....meh, you can see them anywhere.

I'll see your rock and raise you one tree.
Two years ago the state spent $375,000 to move an oak tree that was in the way of construction of a frontage road by Hwy 90. I mean this tree was in the middle of nowhere and they paid close to $400k to move it to another spot in the middle of nowhere

The Rock must have The Lock to be California compliant, right?

I like the guy pulled keys out of his pocket. Most anywhere else, a decent man would pull out a pocket knife!

$10Million, huh? And we wonder why the world hates America?

Finally! I know where the origin of the saying comes from......."dumber than a rock."

Ya want dumb? From what I can find they claim it was paid for with private donations. If I was a patron I would CanX that auto pay so fast it would make their heads spin. Who ARE those people?

Posts below it more entertaining then the article. Comment from one of the people that thought the rock was a great idea, and didn't like negative comment posted:
oh and the post below me is a prefect example of how this article did achieve that message. This guy knows nothing about the rock and came to the conclusion that it's nothing but a waste of time and money.

No end to the stupidity.
The rock itself will be shrink-wrapped for protection
Wouldn't want it to arrive under 340 tons.

I'm filling my truck with rocks and going to california! :D

Who's the curator at that musuem???? Names men, I need names!!! :D:eek::D I'll show them rocks! I live in rock county! Rockville township, on Rock Rd.

I used to curse when I planted corn and raised nothing but rocks...

I'm going to write a book on "Rocks to Riches."

This artist isn't an artist...he's the best dad-burn shyster since Professor Harold Hill!

Anyone placing bets on how long it will before it has graffiti on it?
One nicely placed stick of dynamite would make it more useful...as gravel.

I'm obviously not cool enough to live in California.

I don't get it.

It's a rock.

I mean....

It's an ef'n rock.

One more thing ...

Think they'll be shocked and caught completely off-guard when an earthquake sends that thing tumbling into the parking lot??

I wonder what he THOUGHT a rock would feel like?

Ya never know...

When I was living in California during the 1970s there was guy in the Bay Area who came up with the idea of a "Pet Rock". Sold millions of them in just a few months. Included was a manual on how to properly care for your new pet.

I also remember when Worry Stones were popular in the 1970s. It was a small polished stone with an indentation sized for a thumb to rub.

"Never give a sucker an even break"
- W. C. Fields

"There is a sucker born every minute" - P. T. Barnum

Gotta give it to the guy who sold the rock to the museum. I mean if there an Oscar for con men, this guy deserves one. Heck, I got an even bigger rock east of Atlanta I'll sell them for only half of that. And it's got a picture of Robert E. Lee carved on it. Transporting it will be on them.
