Yes, I am aware there are posts hidden on the Forum, (here and there) but why can't we get a comprehensive permanent Sticky that dates all our S&W firearms? I personally do own a copy of the SCSW and most of the serial numbers I am interested in are listed there, however many here do not own a copy. Yes, you can tell them to purchase one, but usually someone here looks it up and answers the question eventually. It would be so much easier and quicker if there was an official listing posted and kept available. I suppose you could make it available at no cost to contributors and use that as encouragement to join up.

Serial numbers can also be looked up on the internet for free, but that is sometimes a pain in the butt. I ask this mostly for newbies, non paying forum members and guys who do not have access to a copy of the SCSW, - not for myself as I do own a copy. Having a listing of all serial numbers just might push some of the lurker's enough to join the Forum as a paid paid member.

All that said, even though I am a contributing member, I do not walk around with a hard copy of the SCSW for when I need to look up a serial number at a gun show, LGS, etc. Having that information easily accessible on the Forum would be very helpful and convenient. Just an idea, but I think it's a good one!

NOTE: A "Sticky" is a permanent post usually located at the top of each section for easy referral. M. Ayoob, Lee, and others have Sticky's posted there.

What the heck is a "sticky"? I've seen it mentioned a few times in the forum and did a quick search but didn't want to go through 10 pages worth to maybe find it.

Almost always when I need to look up a Serial Number, it's because I am looking at a probable, new to me, gun. At these times I almost never have access to my books. I always have access to my phone.

There is simply too much information for serial numbers to make a sticky of them. They take up several printed pages in the SCSW! There is no on-line reference place to look up S&W serial numbers.

Please be so kind to point them out for me. I have no idea what they are.

Most sub-forums will have stickys, they contain information that is repeated over and over. Or in the For Sale it's does and don't
Here is an example.

I don't have that on my screen, maybe that's why I didn't know what it was. I'm on a desktop. Are you on a smart phone?

🤔 I just opened my laptop and it's on mine.

So if you click on the main catagory. Not a thread, you don't see stickys.

Your example above is a thread.

I would suggest moving this to the Forum Office section if it is a request to add something.

Couple of things to think about though is the book would be copyrighted material so you would not be able to cut and paste it into a sticky.

As said above it would be a very large amount of information and I am not sure the effort to upload all that information by hand, and hope it is typed in correctly, would be worth the effort in the big scheme of things.

Just my thoughts.

The mod's read everything! If they think my idea has merit I am sure they will bounce it off Lee.

Great idea, Charlie, but IMO, if they're a newbie asking about a DOM, I'd doubt if they'd take the time to see the sticky at the top of the page. JMHO...
Few people can tell the difference between an automatic and a revolver. Finding a gun could be the HOOK that keeps inquiring minds coming back.
If a gun has S&W on it the inquiring minds (newbies) are in the Right place.
And Most Welcome
