I have a new pair of "Boat Shoes" They have those flat possibly rawhide laces. No matter how tight or whatever knot I use after a couple hours of walking these knots come undone. The good old square knot the normal shoelace knot and surgeons knot along with a couple others that I do not remember the name have been tried. Back when I went hunting I use a square on my hunting boots and never had a problem

The shoe set up is good and does not need any more lace/knot adjustments, so I would like the knot to stay locked up.

Other than getting my wife's craft glue gun, I'm out of ideas.

When you are done laughing any ideas would be appreciated!:o

You could replace them with the flat textile type laces on athletic and walking shoes. Those stay tied all day for me.

Great idea, Thanks.

I just happen to have a older beat up pair of sneaks that I'm ready to throw out. I will harvest the laces, as you say they tend to stay well tied!

I will look, but it was either Orvis or LLBean that had a video of how to tie rawhide laces for their slippers so they do not come undone. I want to say it was Bean.

However, i cn think of 2 fabulous companies that make moccasins, that I would give a call to and ask if there is a knot that should be used. One is Russell Moccasin Co ( Wisconsin I believe) and the other is Rancourt Shoes in Maine.

I used to have a pair that did the same thing. I soaked the lace ends in water for about an hour, then tied a square knot, then a bow. Pulled it tight, then let them dry. They dried stiff and tight, and never came undone again. I've had rawhide laces on boots before that I could never get to stay tied all day.

Again a big thanks to all that replied.:)

I have been around boats and a construction worker for many decades and I used rope and knots well. Those small caliber shoe laces were driving me crazy, or possibly just a little more crazy.:D

As an ex sailor I wear boat shoes - Docksiders - all the time as I find them to be a comfortable casual shoe. For me I find that the double tied bow works just fine, but you do need to tie both turns very tight.

I'm lazy. Tie them once and forget about them.

Thats exactly what I was doing. Get then right and leave them there. Heck their just loafers and if adjusted right you can slip them on and off without ever touching a knot again. Problem was all the things I tried after a while they would loosen up.

All is well now my little problem seems solved.:)

Kudos to all the great people on here!
