Hope y'all are doing well and behaving.
I've been a bad boy.
First mistake: Went to Hickory Gun Show just to collect from a friend for two revolvers I sold him.
2nd Mistake: walked around tables while there.
3rd Mistake; Saw a revolver on a table I have been wanting for at least 15 years. I have only seen 2 in my life and the guy that owned them both would not sell either. BUT..............there was one on a table at Hickory !!!!
May be almost a once - in - lifetime SCORE: I purchased a Smith 686, 4", NC Wildlife Officer's service weapon w/ holster, no box, but who cares - it was 98% and highly desired by this old geezer!
4th Mistake: kept walking...................................found a Smith 624, .44 special, 3 INCH !!! Horton Edition.
The guy wanted a ridiculous price. I had been watching one on Gunbroker for a week that had a box and was going to cost me at least $1300. This guy had his with NO box, 99% condition and a tag of $1495 !!! Darn!!!
We talked..............I got it for $1040 total. So I could have coughed up another $250 and gotten the same gun with a box and had to pay transfer fees, make a long trip to my friend's FFL, etc. I feel good. This .44 spl. snubbie is same as new........just no box.
5th Mistake: saw the guy that I had bought the Wildlife Officers weapon from, walking around with a wooden presentation box.
I asked what was in it and took a look: A nearly new condition Smith 629, long barrel, in presentation box with tools.......first year production NO DASH, pinned and recessed. Th' heck with it!! I bought the beautiful thing after he came down a hundred.
So, I left the gun show with 3 Smith revolvers that I had on my Bucket List for a long time..............funny how all three were there at one show, especially Hickory!! They drained my life savings, but all fill a void in a pile of wheel guns.
Mistake? Only because it cost me so much. However, it ended up being an exciting opportunity.
Life is good...............Smith Wheelguns are good.
