A tribute to a fallen buddy on Memorial Day.

Paladin, As long as I, and many Vets from that era are alive, none of our brothers will ever be forgotten. God bless you, Ed was fortunate to have such a wonderful friend as yourself.

Thank you for your service...and thanks for the story about your friend.

I went to the The Wall today and located Captain Edward B. Cribb's information on page 146 of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Directory of Names. I located his name on The Wall on Panel 1E, line 27. This panel is located at the very center of The Wall and reflects the Captain's death early in the war, on August 26, 1963.

In the way of The Wall we spent some quality time together, about half an hour, and the appropriate words were said to both soldier and his creator. I closed with a hand salute.

I took the materials to make several etchings of the Captain's name but it was about 3 feet beyond my reach. The are two panels joining at the center of The Wall and they are the tallest in the memorial. I couldn't reach from the top down, either. I'll go back with something to stand on, make your etchings and send them on to you.

By speaking out on the Forum you have made your friend known across the country and around the world. He's been remembered at your Wall and The Wall here. I'd say you've been pretty successful this Memorial Day and some of us have a new friend. You did well by Captain Cribb and he will live as long as we do. It's a Vet thing and I know you understand what I mean by that.

Paladin,

For what it is worth. I read your post and was moved by the store of Edward "Eddie" Cribb. I am a veteran and will be attending a Memorial Day Parade in my hometown on Monday morning. I'll throw this in...I am a supervisor in my police department and the parade is my detail. This story gave me some focus and I will make sure that everone does their jobs in honor of Edward Cribb and every man and woman like him. Stands Alone, Sir!

I have really been touched by the many supportive responses to my post about my buddy and personal hero. Thank you. His story and thousands of other similar stories need to be told this Memorial Day and as long as freedom lives.

S/W - Lifer:

I truly appreciate your going to the Wall on Eddie's behalf. I know he looked down from above and returned your salute smartly. Your efforts to make a rubbing of his name on the Wall are greatly appreciated. I can't write any more. I'm tearing up terribly. THANKS.

Sorry for the loss of your friend Paladin--I too lost some good friends in that ****war. Giod bless you and God Bless America

Sorry about the typo--the fingers do not work as well as they used to.

Keep telling his story and he will not be forgotten. Stories like this need to be passed on. He was definitely one of America's heroes!
